  1. Because trump’s “art of the deal” consists of:

Bully those he perceives as weaker to get what he wants.

Suck up to those he perceives as stronger to get what he wants.

So when the former don’t cave, his brain does not know what to do, other than try and bully more.

  2. Trump is just baffled in general. Amazing that the media is not on his rambling, confusion, constant mistakes, changing policy, talking utter bullshit, but they’ll pay eventually. Trump is shooting for state controlled media and falling out of windows for reporters and dissidents will become increasingly known if the orange makeup slathered moron isn’t reigned in.

  3. As the alt-right showed, just sitting on your hands endlessly can be a very effective political tactic. Frankly if anyone had heard the democratic messaging of the last few weeks no one would be surprised, and yet we’re only hearing Trump’s reaction. Wonder why.

  4. Ultimately, Trump doesn’t care. He insists on doing things his way, rejecting any alternatives. He doesn’t care about the voters who supported him but now lack access to SNAP benefits or are facing rising prices under the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

Hell, Trump had a party at Mar-a-Lago. He doesn’t care.

To be fair to him, this is basically the first time Dems haven’t just caved, so he’s just operating on their past behavior.

  6. It’s amazing, if you stand up to him, he has no plan. Wish people learned this a decade ago

As a lifelong Democratic voter, I’m kind of baffled that they’re not caving too.

They’ve been really good at doing that lately. 🙂

Got to give credit to the Democrats, even with Chuck and Hakeem’s leadership they are standing firm on this issue and I’m happy to see them not bend the knee.

GOP will have to cave sooner rather than later, and if they do get rid of the filibuster, they know it’s game over for them moving forward.

Their plan was to cause pain, looking to hopefully insight insurrectionist act.. but how much more pain can you cause before the people are fully against you?

  9. The Beast and Newsweek are Fox News of the left.. of course no where near as bad but not exactly reliable information wise

You can’t make a deal without offering something. Trump’s mindset that he is the CEO of America is precisely what makes him a pathetically flaccid and ineffective president.

  11. ‘Sir, sir, we don’t understand. We never saw anything like this before. How can you be clowning all over the world and all at the same times, still fucking absolutely everything up at home?’

  12. Trump has lost this battle and the more criminal offenses he commit, the more the courts can take action at some point.

Trump: “i already illegally held back food from poor people. Who else do I have to kill?”

  14. He just can’t understand why they care about average Americans. And the average American won’t remember Dems sticking up for them

  15. I’ve sent troops into their cities and ICE to harass communities and kidnap neighbors, and I want to take their health care but they said no so I took their federal jobs and checks and I am taking their food. Why won’t they work with me?!?

  16. I can’t wait for his dementia ridden mind to start talking about epstein island in his rambling. Much like that very difficult i q test he took.

Bullshit headline and nothingburger reporting as usual from thedailybeast. He’s not fucking baffled, he’s blaming democrats. Please ban TDB from this sub.

  18. two choices. they destroy the 60 40 rule forever. and we get gay marriage and abortions every 4 years. or they pull what they did with China and cry and end up at the same spot you were before and call it a deal.

or you know what I’m used to by Dems, just roll over and do nothing and call it trump care in a memeo

  19. By far the most evil, vindictive, grifting president this country has ever had. Oh, don’t forget to add pedophilia and underage sex trafficking to the roster. America deserves better.

  20. Well i can see that since every other branch of government and corporations have bent the knee to him

  21. To be honest, I’m at least pleasantly surprised the Democrats have found something resembling a spine.

  22. As a dem we are also surprised, our representatives are usually much more spineless than this. I just kind of accepted that I’ma go back to being uninsured next year, but they’re surprising us.

  23. I believe experience teaches us that eventually people catch on to pathological liars and stop believing anything they say.

Or, has been said before, “You can fool some of the people some of the time, but you can’t fool all of the people all of the time.”

I say that because he apparently thought if they just continuously lied about the shutdown, eventually everyone would believe his spin. After all, his lies have worked quite well for some time now.

Trumps maga propaganda firehose will eventually lose its appeal as more and more people realize most all of his facts and figures are fabrications.

  24. Is he actually baffled that Dems aren’t caving, or just baffled about where he currently is? Because if that summit picture with Xi and the two delegations is anything to go on, Trump has no idea what’s going on around him at any given moment.

  25. “maybe if i start a war with venezuela? then i’m a war president! and the peace president!”

  26. The reality is democrats have nothing to lose. There’s not much left for them to fight back against. I hope they’ve recognized working with any republican is a losing strategy for everyone. So long as Trump is the person you’re working with there won’t be any honored deals.

  27. GOP: If you don’t agree to our demands, we will make people suffer

Dems: If we end agree to your demands, you’ll also make people suffer

    GOP: … Yes we will!

  28. He forgets he’s president of all citizens, not just the ones that voted for him. He SERVES us all.

I was in a teachers union. Our union’s power weakened every time we gave in without picketing or striking. Union leaders were afraid of the school board. Then they outlawed striking, so people became even more afraid because of the possible consequences. No selfish or corrupt leaders are going to change their strategy out of a sense of fairness. They only change when they are forced to.

Honestly, I’m a little baffled, too. Democrat politicians generally have more good points than Republicans, but having a spine usually isn’t one of them. I’m….hopeful….?
