  1. Democrat here. I’m not bracing for anything. It’s long overdue. The rest of the old guard of ineffective leaders should also go. Start with Schumer.

  2. She was a great speaker and passed a lot of good legislation. She should’ve retired a while ago though. Dems suffer from older pols hanging on way too long.

  3. Bracing is a bit of hyperbole. She’s 85 and none us of get out of this place alive.

She will have a place in the pantheon of great Speakers, along with Rayburn, Cannon and O’Neil.

And she had a lot smaller margin that they had.

She’s the most effective behind the scenes Dem politician since LBJ,but she absolutely should retire. Even if just the practical reason of the fact a vacant safe D seat due to an Octanegerian dying in office is esssentially a gain of a seat for the GOP since even in safe seats where the house member has a gov of their party speed rushing the special election it still leaves a seat vacant for a good chunk of the their tenture..

Pelosi blocked AOC from the House Oversight committee. So yeah, good riddance, she can say goodbye to her insider stock trading.

  6. She is 85.

My dad died at 83. Politicians need term limits. They shouldn’t be allowed decades of power and corruption.

  7. Well hopefully she’s been saving up a nice little nest egg for retirement since being a public servant doesn’t pay so well.

  8. She was the most effective Speaker and Legislator and Deal Maker in her time in the House. I agree her stepping down from leadership was a little overdue to make room for Jeffries. Her power behind the scenes is what finally forced Biden to step down from running, but it also has hindered a newer generation of politician from stepping up to energize the party, like stopping AOC from leading a committee, that is prime for TV theatrics, with a 70 something year old that still acts like it is the normal times….

Flawed, to be sure, her leadership and value to the party should be celebrated. But retirement probably could have come a little sooner.

  9. Should have happened a decade ago. Also Chuck “the cuck” Schumer and Moscow Mitch “Turtle” McConnell both need to go too. We need to stop having 80+ year old geriatrics in charge of the government.

  10. Brace for? They should be freaking demanding it. She is one of those partially responsible for the mess we find ourselves in.

Media making this out like it’s a bad thing. All you need to know about where they stand.

She was incredible effective as Speaker and is largely the reason Trump got impeached the first time, as well as having been able to keep the massive big tent Democratic Party on focus when it came to passing bills.

People only remember her for being too old or too out of touch forgetting that you also need experienced people who know the process to be able to also get shit done.

It’s not just Republicans that have turned to just populism. Democrats are doing it as well.

She is a trail blazer but it is time for her to go. Thank you for your service, Nancy.

A decade too late—Democrats have failed their constituents by staying in power in pursuit of seniority. Power is not to be abused for private endeavors.

    Rein in political parties.

  15. Not a Democrat but will never vote Republican again as long as I live.

I positively welcome the news of Pelosi retiring. She’s part of the reason we are here. The refusal of the very fucking old to make way for the younger generations has damaged politics in this country irreparably. Part of *leadership* is knowing when to pass the baton and do so gracefully.
