  1. California Gov. Gavin Newsom has confirmed that he will attend the major global climate summit, which the Trump administration is refusing to send representatives to.

Newsom, widely touted as a potential Democratic 2028 presidential candidate, will be stepping in as the 79-year-old Trump stays away from the United Nations climate conference in Brazil, COP30, on Friday.

  2. Smart decision. While Trump is pouting and watching TV at home, Newsom gets to look very presidential while engaging with other leaders on serious issues.

  3. While the President acts like a sulking spoiled brat, real leaders take the initiative and take care of business. May we never have a crybaby as President again

  4. Whether you like him or not; him and AOC are the only two people (this side of fascism) who have a remote shot at the White House that are actually out there resisting and putting in face time.

It makes sense, California is the largest sub-national economy in the world, and on its own would rank globally as number 4 or 5, so it’s reasonable to be represented there.

Also, the TV coverage will drive Trump insane.

Man those ppl dodged a bullet. A incoherent, hateful bullet. Even if you don’t like what Newsom is saying, he can string a sentence together. Probably won’t whine about personal grievances either. Win win

  7. Love him hate him. He is actually doing outreach to build a coalition, hes aggressive, a psycho, but if you are going to hit the grind stone aggressively, thats who we want to lead the party.

  8. Newsome is executing incredibly well and firing on all cylinders. 2028 landslide coming his way

This is a “wow” news item because it positions Gavin as a true leader of the country. He has to be considered the front runner for 2028 (even though it is too early to discuss such things!)

  10. Reminder, Newsom is also going there with California having an economy larger than most countries on top of the state regulations shaping industry standards.

So he’s not only taking over from a pure leadership standpoint, he’s going with the ability to actually affect things.

  11. I love Newsom so much, dude. Everyone should be supporting this man, no matter what problems you might have with him. Democrats need to see that this kind of energy is *overwhelmingly* popular.

Trump is a PINO. A president in name only. Newsom is acting the role of president regardless of how you may feel about him.

  13. This is a big dick move. He gets to say “He can’t run again. I have experience meeting and discussing deals with our allies.” Bonus if he can co-opt some ultra patriotic shtick.

    >**As Trump abandons people and the planet, Governor Newsom heads to COP30 in Brazil**

    >What you need to know: Governor Newsom will travel to Brazil for COP30 as Donald Trump abandons people and the planet, showcasing how California is proving that climate action means more jobs, cleaner air, and lower costs.

I have said for a while that California also deserves its own seat on the G7

Masterful move. I’m proud of him and the good work he’s doing as an American leader.

  16. Is Newsom my fist choice for 2028?

No. But he’s actually out there fighting and standing up to the bullshit.

  17. While I cant totally trust newsom his level of fight is needed, I think he is reading the landscape correctly politically he probally will be the next president

I would vote for a dog before I would vote for an unfeeling Republican. So whoever the Democrat candidate is has my vote. Republicans would see Americans starve before they would say no to Trump or Stephen Miller.

Trump thinks he can take the ball and go home. But the game still goes on. He just loses by default.

  20. I’m not the biggest Newsome fan, but I’m sick of these geriatrics fucking everything up.

Democrats have been complaining for years that nobody is stepping up to lead the party. Well, now we have a clear leader. I’m not ready to throw my full support behind him to be president yet, but he’s the leader we need at this moment.
