“A coalition of unions filed a lawsuit on Thursday accusing the White House and the Office of Personnel Management of “creating an illegal and unconstitutional system of political patronage” through a Merit Hiring Plan released in May.
An OPM memo explained that four open-ended essay questions would be added to job applications for federal civil service positions. One question asks: “How would you help advance the President’s Executive Orders and policy priorities in this role? Identify one or two relevant Executive Orders or policy initiatives that are significant to you, and explain how you would help implement them if hired.””

Three federal worker unions took the Trump administration to court over a “loyalty test” added to job applications.

Never trusted OPM when working in a state judicial position, where I had access to hundreds of thousands of criminal records. I refused to give them anything more than public documents after 2016; they had no legal access to anything more than the public, though we didn’t have to redact everything.
I did anyway; they were all dumbasses who were independent contractors and didn’t deserve anything more than public documents. Fuck OPM. I’ve hated them for nearly ten years. Worst nepotistic bureaucratic inefficient corrupt department of the entire United States government I have ever encountered, and that was in 2016/2017; long before Elmo’s DOGE bullshit and Project 2025.
I’m glad I rebelled in that small way during the Orange Moron’s first term.

2029 is going to require the first question of a federal government job application to be: “Are you now, or have you ever been, a member of the Republican Party?”
