40 billion for a one year extension shows how much Republicans really dont want to open the economy anyway. They know we are in a recession and just want to find a way to blame Democrats for it.

  2. they are refusing to end the shutdown – period. There no middle ground with these people.

  3. They believe the shutdown allows them to blame the Democrats for Trump’s worsening economy. Not only that, they know that the Epstein Files will return to center stage as soon as the government reopens.

someone else said, “The democrats keep laying chicken with Thelma and Louise”

  5. Its almost as if they dont want the shutdown to end. Rule by cruelty and decree. That’s their plan

“when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government…”

Would be funny if they had, and we could have a shutdown during mid terms. Republicans promised those tax cuts to the people who pay to keep them on office, the big donors. Fuck the big donors, donate some fucking tax.

So we have an extra $40 billion to gift to Argentina, but can’t afford (for even one more year) to help Americans who want to buy insurance for themselves and their loved ones.

  9. It was a shrewd offer. The Dems probably ran a gambit that the Republicans would refuse. It worked. It is now clear to all Americans that the Republicans have no interest in lifting the shutdown. They could easily have taken the one-year extension and lost nothing but time, but they chose intransigence, and that’s going to cost them at the polls.

Instead of headlines like “Republicans aren’t buying it”, it should read “petulant little baby’s won’t negotiate”.

  11. >”The Obamacare extension is the negotiation. That’s what we’re going to negotiate once the government opens up.

Is there anyone with a functional brain who actually believes this?

  12. ShamelessCatDude on

“Republicans aren’t buying it” sounds like the democrats are trying to trick them into reopening the government, instead of just wanting to feed people and give them healthcare while republicans prove they don’t want either of these things

  13. Wasn’t this the original ‘offer’ in the first place? How is this a ‘new’ offer of the same thing?

  14. Because they have no plans on ending the shutdown. They’re not even at the table. The ultimate plan is to break everything so the super rich can buy it below cost and create a feudal christofascist society. Also, they can’t allow release of the Epstein files or it may mess up plan A.

  15. They have money for billionaires, they have money for Argentina, they have money to buy and refurbish multiple planes, but sadly there’s no money for healthcare.

The Republicans are being cynical at this point. They’re pure evil. They’d rather see hunger go rampant in one of the richest countries in the world, than to give an inch. They’re not politicians, they’re terrorists.

  16. Straight out plain and simple, the Republicans don’t want to end it because they’re not done smearing the Democrats. They’re trying to drag the Democratic party through the mud. That’s it. They are strictly using this for their political gain and that’s it.

Because the shutdown is good for Trump. Can we not all see that?

Can we not see they are pushing towards shutting down air travel right before Thanksgiving and then blaming the Dems for ruining the holiday? This is what they want.

  18. This shows the Republicans are not interested in ending this shutdown all because tRump told them not to except anything Democrats offer. It’s his way or nothing. The main issue is, Congress DOES NOT ANSWER TO THE PRESIDENT!!!!! They answer to the people that put them into office and the way it’s going, they wont be in office for long. They are going to lose they collective Republican asses in the 2026 election.

  19. What the fuck title is that?

The Democrats, propose; the Republicans fail.

The burden of governing lies with the Republicans who must compromise (as has always been done).

    It’s their fault. Point.

  20. Raspberries-Are-Evil on

Republicans can not govern. Compromise is part of governing. They demand shit all the time when they are in the minority and we always compromise with them.

  21. Because this whole argument would comeback up during the midterms, republicans are getting bullied right now and they don’t want to go through it again.

    They want their win NOW.

  22. Wise_Plankton_4099 on

What folks aren’t getting is that Republicans are representing their constituents by shutting down the government. Voters *explicitly* demanded that they dismantle “Obamacare,” otherwise known as the Affordable Care Act, knowing full well there was no replacement. That was one of the major campaign goals of the Trump administration.

*Republican voters want to spend more on insurance,* and by God they’ll starve themselves if they can’t get their way. They said so loudly and proudly for years.

  23. Republicans are holding the government hostage until Democrats give into their demands. Every news outlet should call this what it is.

  24. Republicans are really refusing to reopen the gov unless they can defund healthcare subsidies and going to court for the right to starve children. Can’t imagine getting played harder than this.

  25. Repeal the BBB, fund everything like last year, put the donors of the ballroom on the hook for a restoration of the east wing and rose garden.

  26. They need to stop making offers. This is what republican governance looks like, let them own it.
