It was a shrewd offer. The Dems probably ran a gambit that the Republicans would refuse. It worked. It is now clear to all Americans that the Republicans have no interest in lifting the shutdown. What folks aren’t getting is that Republicans are representing their constituents by shutting down the government. Voters *explicitly* demanded that they dismantle “Obamacare,” otherwise known as the Affordable Care Act, knowing full well there was no replacement. That was one of the major campaign goals of the Trump administration.
*Republican voters want to spend more on insurance,* and by God they’ll starve themselves if they can’t get their way. They said so loudly and proudly for years.
