totally unsurprising given the list of donors to the presidential campaign included Intuit.

  2. How are some people suppose to pay their taxes, when they don’t even have enough money after bills, to do their taxes?

    Seriously?

  3. are you fucking kidding me. not only are you robbing the working class blind but now this? now we have to pay you so you can continue to steal from us?

Congressional Republicans love it that you pay bank fees. Now they want you to go to HR Block or TurboTax to file your taxes when you used to be able to do it for free.

The Trump government is by the billionaires, for the billionaires.

  5. Just have to do it the old fashioned way get the instruction book, download the forms and manually fill out the pdfs check calculations, recheck then snail mail it off. As a real fiscal conservative it makes no fiscal sense to pay someone to pay my taxes, even with specific deductions and exemptions. F the entirety of all that.

Hey, MAGA imbeciles, please explain to me how this makes the lives better of the American people. Thx in advance, bozos.

  7. This is a reminder that unless you own a company, then this taxes could be 100% automated by the government. IRS already get the information they need from banks and other government departments.
They already know how much you owe in taxes. They could have sent you pre-filled out document, or just ask you to go online. Just request you verify the information they got on you, and assume they are correct if they don’t hear anything from you.

Why? Because that’s how my yearly taxes are done. I get an SMS + E-mail that my taxes forms are filled out. I go to our own version of IRS’s webpage, and log in to verify everything. I only do it to see if I have paid too much or too little.

US is deathly allergic to any system that benefits the average citizen. If it doesn’t involve politicians getting yearly bribes the government isn’t interested.

It was literally free to file your taxes but Trump will absolutely say later today “it’s never been cheaper to file! Under Biden it was more expensive”

  9. Making it harder for Americans to do simple shit so your rich donors can make more money.

    Fucking Trump

  10. lol, ok IRS. Everybody should print 1040 and mail it in and make IRS go back to scanning. Have fun with paper filing.

You know who *always* has to pay someone to do their taxes? Rich people.

Is it really *fair* that the poors get something the rich don’t get to have? /s

  12. Why make it easier on American citizens when we can make it easier on corporations, right MAGA?

  13. Necessary_Scheme_347 on

MAGA would rather deepthroat the billion dollar middle man corporations than dare to admit the government made something better

  14. Looks like I’ll be offering to help people file for free in my town this year, again. 100% going to take efforts to identify and filter out magats and not help the people that voted to do this to us.

  15. This is the department that nows how much you should have paid them but won’t tell you because reasons they don’t tell you.

  16. I hope this swings back the otherway hard.  When someone finally fixes this mess I hope they just say “you dont have to file taxes at all, the government will send you a letter with the amount of money you were paid throughout the year, your tax obligation and any credits or deductions it was able to find, followed by if you agree with this information you can pay the amount owed (or accept the proposed refund amount) on this website, or if you would like to file the taxes manually you may file your proposed amount by April 15th”….

Basic taxes should be really simple. Other countries have figured this out. Why cant the US? (Just kidding i know the answer, its lobbyists and corruption)

  17. Why are we still paying Federal income tax? The government is shut down, rights are being infringed upon, and the president is ignoring the law.

  18. The Trump is fleecing the middle class and looting the country for billionaires and it’s blatant.

  19. Honestly, I am a CPA, but I don’t like fiddling with my own taxes. The entire thing is a racket.

IIRC, The US piloted a system (like a lot of other developed countries use) in a couple states where they sent basically a postcard showing you what they already calculated your payment/refund to be and you just said yes or “I disagree because of xyz”. People loved it. Intuit and H&R Block lobbied against it and it never moved beyond the pilot stage. Planet money or maybe another NPR podcast did a great episode on it.

I hate scummy big companies so I try to do something along the lines of “go local” where I have another CPA in town do my taxes. I can foot the bill which I know makes this not a one-size-fits-all and again I think it should be free to directly file. But most of the time it’s sub-$100 that is going to my locale instead of a company who does the above.

IN MY EXPERIENCE – a lot of local CPA shops have their normal tax return process (Federal and a state or two is super run of the mill) down to a science. that you just share your documents, answer a couple questions with an actual person (phone or email). I also regularly find that a local CPA shop will find you some credits/deductions/allowances etc whereas most of the big box companies are just doing a lowest-common-denominator decision tree that I always feel like has a bunch of questions where the answers they provide don’t quite tell the whole story and ends with the standard deduction and dependent claims and that’s the end of it.

The gvmnt tries to bully intimidate and extort its citizens.

I’m over it. I don’t care about “fiscal responsibility” anymore.
I don’t care what they threaten me with or what they try to do to me.

I’m not paying anymore. I’m not maintaining anything anymore.

    I’m giving up, I quit.

  21. Perhaps we should defer our federal taxes until 2028? No taxation without representation; and it certainly feels like our dollar/spending habits is potentially the only collateral we have left as an American people….

  22. But the website clearly says the service has been suspended for 2025 and will resume in January 2026. So… clickbait?
