I respect the shit out of what Seth, Colbert, Kimmel, Stewart, et. al. are doing for this country right now. While we have feckless, spineless “leaders” – people elected by us to represent our interests – refusing to stand up and fight for us like they promised us they would do, we have comedians (granted comedians with fuck-you money and connections, but their staff don’t) taking all of the heat in their stead in speaking truth to power.
History will not remember kindly the politicians on both sides of the aisle who had ample opportunity and power to prevent this current state-of-play, and instead decided to abrogate their duty out of fear of the backlash from Trump’s constituents, real or imagined. They have failed us and betrayed us. It is their fucking duty to represent us, and it’s clear they can’t or won’t, and as such, never should have been anywhere near the levers of power in the first place.
