I really hope this is just some 4d chess maneuver by the Dems because honestly, this aint it. What the fuck was the actual point of fighting for the ACA subsidies if all you get is a “promise of a vote” for it. Im sure the GOP will vote yes for it…/s. Stupid idiots !!
If you have to go on a tour explaining why this was good, it probably wasn’t.
You can always count on Democrat leadership to provide the most highly refined small PP energy the world has ever seen.
Treat centrists the way centrists treat aoc/bernie/mamdani. They fought a multi month 22 million campaign against mamdani. Compare that to how they fight against republicans.
Reminder, a list of people who can go fuck themself:
– Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.)
– Sen. Angus King (I-Maine)
– Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.)
– Sen. Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.)
– Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.)
– Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.)
– Sen. Maggie Hassan (D-N.H.)
– Tim Kaine (D-Va.)
still struggling to grasp the thought process behind holding out for 40+ days and then giving the republicans what they wanted anyway.
people went without pay and others have resigned, with potential long lasting damage to US government services. lots more people are resorting to food banks. and for what?
Too early in the week to start drinking heavily. Open to suggestions.
Anyway to stop what the 8 cowards did or is it over ?
Centrist/Moderate Democrats cannot be the future of the party. Failures of courage and policy. Schumer needs to resign for failing to take advantage of the momentum of *the week* and for either setting this up or failing to keep his *safe* party members in line. Ridiculous.
Sounds like the longest shutdown in US history is finally coming to an end. People are upset, but I guess I’m taking crazy pills here cause this has gone on way too long.
Again, need I remind you that no US shutdown has been as long as this one. And yinz wanted to keep it going?
I get principles. I get standing up for what you believe in. Heck, I even understand insurance, somewhat.
But bottom line is the government needs to be working again. A government shutdown helps nobody. The sooner we come together and end this shit, the better. End of story.
Haven’t felt this fucking stupid since Night 1 of the DNC when all of us at the United Center stood up and clapped that grandpa was finally giving up the keys over a year after he should have. Way too often this party takes the NY Jets approach where after their opponent shoots themselves in the foot, they come back and shoot themselves in the head.
2024 voter turnout: 64%
“But my vote doesn’t matter.”
Every last one of these corporate dems needs to be replaced by progressive candidates. America is about to have “concepts” for healthcare.
A big thank you to those 8 Democrats who did the right thing and helped end the shutdown.
Now democrats are really in a pickle, Can’t win without moderates.. moderates just caved and made this shutdown democrats fault. Go team Red.
I was super upset about this. Even wrote a email to every senator. Then I started thinking.
There’s a lot of activity on this and the media outlets are covering it in an interesting way. We were 100% winning the shutdown, but I will say 2 things.
There’s no way I’m actually going to complain that SNAP benefits are going out, federal workers are getting paid and air traffic will go back to what we call normal.
Also, if the Epstein files come out next week, there are going to be a lot of people with egg on their face.
Lots of folks are being reactionary, so take a step back and look deeper. The country being shutdown during winter holidays was literally going to kill children. We were very close to another major air crash and there have been several close calls. Stories are dropping today regarding Maxwell receiving custom meals, access to the staff areas at her prison and has asked for a commutation that Trump is considering. Stories also dropped this week that Republicans are privately being told the Epstein files are way worse than anyone imagined. Trumps in it, lots of cabinet members, world leaders and there’s video. It could bring world governments down or even cause riots. There’s also a special election in December in which repugs might pick up an extra vote that would allow them to block the files.
I’m not saying the Dems are doing good shit. They may just be corporate shills. But if big Epstein news drops from the house or they refuse to advance the budget to keep the government closed and keep the files hidden, don’t forget that the Dem senate orchestrated it
Schumer I’m not surprised but Kaine I’m just disappointed.
Since 2024 all he has done is grilled the right wing for screwing over the non-elites, defended federal workers, feeding kids and families, and then he does this especially after Virginia went blue last week.
What a fucking disappointment, all around.
I wonder of there will be shenanigans in the House, I worry that the House GOP are going to amend this deal and send it back to the Senate to prolong the shutdown while forcing the 8 Dems to agree to a worse deal just to end the shutdown.
8 dems could have at least secured something like 3 month SNAP funding for future shutdowns. Or said they caved because snap not being paid out by administration despite judicial rulings. Buuuut they act like a promise is a win.
Johnson is holding a press conference at 10am. Jeffries at noon.

Democrats last week were concerned about people literally starving because of the shutdown now they’re mad it ended.
Trump knew it: Democrats Always Chicken Out
God damnit Fetterman.
This might actually turn out to be a good thing, at least in the long term.
The first thing to know is that American voters have a short term memory. They aren’t going remember the names of individual senators who caved. Only that their healthcare costs are going up and the real part in power isn’t doing anything to help. Those who are more politically interested will remember the names of those who caved and primary them.
Something to consider, Obama won the 2013 shutdown but Republicans still took control of congress in 2014. Republicans were also growing more and more displeased with their party despite them winning the midterms which gave rise to Trump. Its not impossible to think that loud progressives like Mamdani may take advantage of the anger and become the voice of the party for the Presidency.
We need to take at least one chamber of congress in 2026, though I think the senate might be cooked at least right now. The bigger focus will be on 2028.
Democrats giving up for nothing gained.
Why even bother doing a shut down then.
They caved for the promise of a vote? What the hell is that. The house senate or president will just say no.
How the fuck do they call that a win
