I may be wrong on the calculus here, but this may be their off-ramp. Trump is going to die, sooner rather than later, and when he does go, the party will fracture and implode. There’s already infighting. Those that break now will form the new Republican Party and try to make the claim that, as soon as they knew for certain he was joined at the hip with Epstein, they abandoned him. It’ll be false, of course, because they’ve all been in lock step with him for the past decade, but I feel like this is what’s happening.

Then Senate will make some excuse to postpone a vote by a weeks, if not months, and they are are going to pass it, but then Trump will not sign it, then they will not get veto-override majority, they will give some excuses as “respecting the will of elected president”
It will take months, and by that time we will be deep to waist in Venezuelan quagmire, and if you try to raise issue of files, you will be declared a traitor who wants to break a nation unity in these trying times, while our boys are dying for our democracy.
