  1. Because of Migrants? Jesus Christ! Can these idiots take the blame for any of their numerous fuckups?

  2. Negative_Gravitas on

    >Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has claimed beef prices are rising because of immigrants bringing diseased cattle across the border.

If you believe this, there is no hope for you.

Americans being robbed blind. Clearly voting alone won’t fix this. Release the Epstein files then take to the streets folks.

  4. Sounds cheap to me, here in Austria we pay way more for ~0,5kg. Maybe it’s because we didnt realize it’s the migrants fault. /s

  5. 1. Why is the *Treasury Secretary* giving his opinion on this?
    2. Migrant cattle drives across the border?!

Um…I guess no one’s been to the store lately.
I’d like to know where it’s not already 10$ a pound?

    ## U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
The FDA, housed within the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), saw a substantial reduction in its workforce.

Significant Staff Losses: The FDA lost approximately 21% of its total staff during the Trump administration due to cuts and departures. In one instance in April 2025 (referring to events that occurred during the Trump administration’s second term), more than 3,500 FDA jobs were eliminated.
Impact on Food Safety: These reductions affected various divisions, including the human food program, which lost 20% of its staff. Specific cuts included scientists, investigators, regulatory professionals, and policy staff who work on guidance documents and regulations.
Consequences: These cuts led to historic lows in inspections of foreign food facilities and raised concerns among food safety experts about the increased risk of outbreaks. Some terminated employees were later reinstated after it was claimed they had been “inadvertently fired”.

    ## Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS)
The FSIS, part of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), also faced staffing challenges.

Resignations and Departures: The agency experienced staff losses through a program offering incentives for employees to resign (Deferred Resignation Program) and other separations. Over 550 FSIS employees left through an early resignation program, contributing to overall staffing shortfalls.
Budget and Workforce Reductions: The USDA overall faced substantial budget reduction proposals and workforce cuts, which indirectly and directly impacted the FSIS’s operations. While the administration claimed food safety inspectors would be spared from mass layoffs, a hiring freeze and push for voluntary departures took a toll, resulting in many vacant inspection positions.
Union Concerns: Food safety advocates expressed alarm over actions that they believed undermined union contracts, which could make it harder for inspectors to hold meatpacking companies accountable.

In summary, the Trump administration’s policies resulted in a smaller workforce and significant challenges for both the FDA and FSIS in maintaining their full regulatory and safety oversight functions.

  8. Man migrants taking all the 30 year mortgages, buying up all the housing on the market, getting all the free Healthcare, paying no taxes, and now also buying up all the steaks! Is there nothing they won’t do! /s

    Crazy times keep rolling

  9. So what im hearing is trumps border patrol is so ineffective theyre sneaking in literal cows. Maybe they shouldn’t worry about Charlotte 🤷🏼

Of course everything bad is a non-white persons fault for MAGA because MAGA’s fundamentally a white supremacist movement.

People keep commenting on how ridiculous it would be to smuggle enough cattle to effect beef prices, but the bigger issue is that people including our Treasury Secretary thinks that more cows would make prices *higher*. If the population of cows is increasing more than expected then prices should go *down* if we were actually a free market economy. That’s like first day Economics 101. The reality is that tariffs have raised the price floor on beef and beef producers don’t want to turn back and lose out on making more money.

  12. Total-Mushroom-9614 on

Because of all the substandard diseased cows the migrants brought with them under Biden’s Open Border *bring your own Cow* initiative.

If they brought a cow with them they got double voting privileges. /s

  13. >“There’s also, because of the mass immigration, a disease that we’d been rid of in North America made its way up through South America as these migrants brought some of their cattle with them,” Bessent said.

    >He added: “So part of the problem is we’ve had to shut the border to Mexican beef because of this disease called the screwworm.”

Bessent is blaming the screwworm invasion on immigrants bringing their cattle with them??? Screwworm is spread by flies that bite cattle, not immigrants.

And want to hear about a disease that we’d been rid of in North America? Measles. Your administration is letting it run rampant through the population, when it was declared eradicated in the early 2000s.

  14. ‘“Speaking to Fox News Sunday, Bessent addressed reports that beef prices could hit $10 per pound next year, saying it was an issue “inherited” by the administration due to long-standing factors.

“There’s also, because of the mass immigration, a disease that we’d been rid of in North America made its way up through South America as these migrants brought some of their cattle with them,” Bessent said.

He added: “So part of the problem is we’ve had to shut the border to Mexican beef because of this disease called the screwworm.”’

This is so absurd? This is real and not The Onion or SNL?

  15. we must be getting huge numbers of immigrants coming in with cows, to have such an impact on beef prices. I thought the border was sealed tighter than a frogs ass.

  16. “There’s also, because of the mass immigration, a disease that we’d been rid of in North America made its way up through South America as these migrants brought some of their cattle with them,” Bessent said.

Jesus. Does he really think Americans are stupid enough to believe that migrants have their own cattle that they are bringing into America?

Do these migrants somehow have a ranch north of the border? Are these migrants planning to walk to Kroger and sell these cows?

The whole fucking idea is absolutely ludicrous.

  17. How do they manage to eat so much beef at $10 a pound, with stomachs full of all our cats and dogs and no jobs?!

  18. Wait I thought migrants were at their peak during the Biden administration? Wouldn’t beef prices have been $10/lb then?

  19. Few thoughts here:

    1) Maybe…just maybe…part of the rising cost is because of the LACK of migrant workers who typically work as both ranch hands and in slaughter houses.

    2) While there is actually no indication of screw worm infected beef in the US (as per the article) maybe we shouldn’t be gutting the USDA Food Defense programs that have consistently been lowering the rate of food borne issues for decades.

    3) As per the article, Mexican beef makes up 1% of the the US Beef Consumption. It is approximately $6.50/lb in the US right now. Not sure how a 1% reduction in supply raises the value by 40% but to be fair I am not an economist.

  20. Why is nobody reporting that USAID that DOGE destroyed was the agency responsible for keeping the screwworm from spreading north?

This crisis was literally caused this year by Trump’s insane fly by the seat of your pants governance.

    https://onpasture.com/2025/05/12/the-surprising-link-between-cattle-cocaine-and-the-screwworms-comeback/

    >Since 2006, the U.S. and Panama together have maintained a barrier zone of sterile male flies to prevent wild screwworm flies from South America from reinfesting Central and North America. At the same time, USAID staff helped maintain the barrier by working with local ranchers and veterinarians in Mexico and Central America. Their job was to monitor for the screwworm and ensure that outbreaks were treated immediately to prevent further spread of the flies.

  21. People don’t know enough about our immigration system. People have already been convinced that seeking asylum = illegal entry despite that not being the case.

  22. demonmonkeybex on

Oh it’s true. The migrants coming off the buses in Denver are coming with their cows and steers. The buses smell terrible, too.
