Can’t wait for the supreme court to tell me why Texas’s map is okay but nobody else can redraw theirs.

Thing is Texas will use it regardless of any demands as Republicans have been doing with court rejected maps for years

Unfortunately, it won’t hold up because of Rucho v. Common Cause. The SCOTUS somehow ruled that they have no role in adjudicating gerrymandered maps, in essence saying that the SCOTUS has a limited role in ensuring free and fair elections in the United States.
But as others have said, they’ll find a twisted way to say that California’s is different.

Fun fact: The text of California’s Prop 50 *requires* the adoption of the congressional districts reflected in AB 604, and says they *shall* be temporarily used until 2031 when the CRC redraws them.

I highly doubt this will hold up in higher courts tbh
I’d love for it to be struck down (By a Trump appointed judge no less) but im reading the article and it doesnt even given a reason why…I was pretty sure as long as the districts are VRA compliant and match the number of house reps from apportionment states have the power to redistrict as they please

Abbott WILL NOT stand for this.

Sadly, there’s really no use for lower courts anymore (due to the GOP)
I saw a report that said as the Texas redistrict created purple regions where solid red existed, with Trumps record unpopularity, they might end up adding D house members. That would be sweet sweet justice.

Just trying to build the case for blocking California’s remapping.

DOJ is suing California for their redistricting bill, let’s see what happens here.

The oligarchs must be getting afraid that they’ll get stuck with the GOP.

Haha fuck the republicans!

While I don’t hold much faith that this ruling will stand if and when it reaches the Supreme Court, it would he absolutely hilarious if the Texas redrawn maps that started this current gerrymandering fight with California is blocked while California’s is allowed to stand.

AND wheels abbott hasn’t strung the entire Texas border with abbott razor wire and spinning floats of death, YET!!! I thought that was his go-to for just about everything.

Good it was illegal and they should’ve done it like California and let the people decide.

Stick with the normal program
Redraw according to census like usual. Abbot needs to go. His TCEQ commissioners have greenlighted every f’ing housing project in the hill country, allowed quarries to buy large ranches, allowed shitty developers like Lennar to build tract homes and dump their “clean effluent” into our streams and lakes, and just scar the land, WHERE THERE IS NO WATER.
Canyon Lake and Comal County is a prime example.
It’s time for change.
Abbot, Patrick, Paxton all need to go.
They have done nothing for property tax relief, done nothing to harness in the counties ability to just tax the crap out of us, etc..,
Let’s get TX back to being a great place to live and enjoy, beyond all this traffic, higher taxes, and rapidly deteriorating quality of life.
