Yeah I’ll believe if the GOP gets destroyed in the next election, until then the cult will continue to reach new levels of depravity.

They can leave the movement, it doesn’t change the fact their pieces of shit and shouldn’t be welcomed back into the mainstream.

  3. Fuck all of them. One big reason our country has so many issues is we never fully make people face accountability for their actions. This goes all the way back to the Civil War.

  4. Good riddance! The MAGA movement was built on lies and misinformation. The truth is finally coming out. MAGA is a toxic ideology

  5. They’re gun toting conspiracy theory believing weirdos, I’m sure it is. They knew this going in.

  6. Just, no. Taking the “high road” and trying to “move ahead” are the reason we are in this mess to begin with. I will never forgive the people who supported this.

They have proven time and again how depraved and/or stupid they are. Either way, they are a danger to society.

    Never forget; never forgive.

In four years you won’t be able to find one of these fuckers. Just like the scumbags who elected George Bush the second time. Where are they all now? Swift boaters? Chemical and nuclear weapons in Iraq?

    No, we never supported that!

I have a hard time imagining MAGA as a movement out living the Trump presidency. My impression is that the culture yearns for a single strong leader who is fully self sufficient. I don’t think there’s another Trump style conservative billionaire ready to step into that void. His coalition falls apart.

  9. The issue isn’t leaving MAGA. They issue is they aren’t changing their views. This is like a parasite leaving the dying host looking for a new body to infect. The parasite just evolves.

  10. > but I believe most in MAGA are good people who have been led astray, exploited and manipulated.

I beg to differ. They knew what they were getting into, but turned a blind eye as long as they weren’t affected. They were trash voting for trash.

No one calls themselves Tea Partiers anymore. But the people, and their shitty world-views, still exist. They became MAGA. When MAGA expires, they will become something else.

Tea Party is their Dead Name. Now they are MAGA. MAGA will become their Dead Name soon enough, and they’ll be something else. It’s the people that are the problem, not the title.

  12. I think it comes down to this MAGA was always just one big con, and some people find out over time. There’s not going to be a mass coming to Jesus moment, because at the lowest level the con is Capitalism and Conservatism. Some people can give up MAGA, but they don’t want to believe their whole life was devoted to maintaining a scam that enriched others while keeping them poor.

  13. >Liberals aren’t wrong about the dangers of MAGA, but they don’t make it easy for people to leave. Ridicule and moral superiority can too easily close the door to honest dialogue, while empathy and understanding, difficult as they may be, open the path to genuine transformation.

Continuing to put the responsibility of one’s actions and behavior on “liberals” is ridiculous. One needs to be accountable for their own actions and accept those consequences, or zero lessons are learned. And consequences involve proactively making amends with those who have been harmed – not expecting them to just embrace you with open arms.

    >My journey out of MAGA began when Ron DeSantis, the governor of my state, began to platform anti-vaccine conspiracy theorists. That led me to go back and learn what really happened at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

That remark about Jan 6 left me with so many questions. How did MAGA actually *experience* Jan 6? Was the Fox coverage really so warped that they would have no clue at all?

  15. And they’ll all be patting themselves on the back for how brave they were to finally hold themselves accountable to their extremism after 10 years of bullying and berating the left while refusing to hold their own accountable. A decade…

  16. It’s the same story we always knew. These are selfish people who will only notice once their selfishness affects them. The author says as much.

  17. Boxofbikeparts on

I can understand wanting to be part of a group or movement, but the writer never mentions what that movement actually stood for.

If they feel unheard or passed over, what do they want us to hear? What are the political reasons for being part of such a hateful and deceptive group?

Why would you support a political party that doesn’t have your best interests in mind?

  18. Some of the stuff in the article is useful. Some is bullshit. All of it ends up being a plea for donations to this guy’s “leaving maga” organization. Doing this for money has me questioning this guy’s motivation.

While I agree with most of the comments here about MAGA never truly going away in our lifetimes and how horrible this whole thing has been for our country, I would offer this. If there is a friend or loved one who went MAGA and is now voicing skepticism, talk to them about it. Cult’s don’t vanish overnight (exclude mass suicide event). They are Whittled away at over periods of time. Defectors become some of the most effective deprogrammers. Cult’s operate much like addiction. Without intervention they will destroy the user. If you help a parent, an aunt or uncle, a close friend, or anyone, there is a good chance they can help someone in their MAGA network. If it’s not something someone is willing to do I completely understand that but if you are so inclined it can really make a difference.

  20. The scary thing about this is that Maga is ready to leave Maga for something even more destructive and racist. That’s the sad part

  21. I’m done with MAGA

So you’ve changed your views on social and economic issues?

No… I’m no longer supporting trump

But you still support all the racist shit you did before?

Yes but I don’t want to be associated with MAGA anymore

  22. In some ways this could be a good thing. Assuming we ever get a working government back. Many of these people have proudly self identified. For most there won’t be a consequences other than their family and friends (ex friends) won’t ever deal with them again. But for some…I expect real consequences like losing their businesses- I mean who wants to deal with a nazi? Even other nazis don’t like nazis. Ice? Gone. Defunded completely. That’s a good thing. Dhs? FBI? Doj? Since they are pretty well destroyed now, there will be a potential to build them into strong working institutions again. Geez, I wish the dems had a leader we could actually get behind right now…. What an opportunity we could have!

My problem isn’t forgiving. It’s that I can’t forget. What happens when another charismatic figure comes along speaking again to these people’s greviences? Will they fall in line behind him too? Smart money says yes most will.

Dr. Steven Hassan is a cult and mind control expert. He has a very good YouTube channel and has written the book “The Cult of Trump”. He used to be in a cult. I highly recommend checking it out.

I will never be able to fully trust friends and family who went full maga.

Good people? Some may be good people but they’re doing bad things. They don’t get a pass for their bad things.
