Those Catholic conservatives thought they were special. Welcome to the bus. Evangelical Protestant white nationalists don’t consider you part of the team, honey. Too much helping the poor, and the stranger.

I mean, a lot of American Christians don’t consider Catholics to be true Christians. I’m surprised it took this long for the Catholics to be thrown out.

Tell soldiers they have to follow the law, MAGA goes nuts. Catholic church telling them their activities around immigration are inherently immoral, MAGA goes nuts. They really hate being told what they’re doing is wrong, just want to keep doing it.

  4. >“Boarder czar” Tom Homan [condemned](https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/267839/border-czar-homan-says-catholic-church-is-wrong-on-immigration) the bishops’ letter and the church as “wrong.”

    >“I’m saying it as not only border czar, I’ll say it as a Catholic. I think they need to spend time fixing the Catholic Church, in my opinion.”

“Fixing” the church has nothing to do with denying people the right to their religious beliefs by denying them access to clergy.

Excommunicate Tom Homan, Pope. This is not a real Catholic. A real Catholic would know how important access to a priest is, when needed, especially when facing horrendous life challenges.

The Baptists and Pentecostals have called Catholics “idol worshipers” for over 50 years. So, not surprising that the Evangelicals (which has its roots in those denominations) is opposed to Catholicism .

  6. I’m curious how my very devout Catholic-Trump supporting neighbors are going to feel about this. Lol!

  7. I went to a southern Baptist church with my mother in the late 80s and I remember during the satanic panic they also tried telling us Catholics were not “real” Christians. I already felt like that place was odd – but that video is solely responsible for my personal lack of religiosity.

I mean, they only predate Martin Luther by how long? Evangelicals are strange. Anyone who prosthelytizes is just a salesman. Tax churches and see how deep that faith really runs.

  8. >As Leo has [stated](https://www.nytimes.com/2025/11/16/opinion/trump-pope-leo-maga-christianity.html), “Someone who says I am against abortion but I am in agreement with the inhuman treatment of immigrants in the United States, I don’t know if that’s pro-life.”

    >Catholics are swing voters and often determine election outcomes. Joe Biden [won their votes in 2020](https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/265015/new-pew-study-reveals-percentage-of-catholics-who-voted-for-trump-in-2024); [Donald Trump ](https://thehill.com/people/donald-trump/)had a [12-point advantage](https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/265015/new-pew-study-reveals-percentage-of-catholics-who-voted-for-trump-in-2024) in 2024. Today, [a majority of Catholics disapprove of Trump](https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2025/04/28/white-evangelicals-continue-to-stand-out-in-their-support-for-trump/).

I just want to remind everyone and some Catholics as well that Jesus was a liberal who championed the poor and disadvantaged. You could say he was the original liberal.

As a Catholic it has killed me seeing the faith taken over by the right and then MAGA. I’m so happy to see the Bishops push back and in turn get MAGA to show their true colors.

Trump thinks he’s dealing with another politician with Leo. Many secular leaders throughout the centuries have made the same miscalculation about the Pope. Popes don’t have approval ratings (well they do but don’t care about them).

It’s not a stretch for the Pope to schedule a visit to the US and skip DC to head to a deportation center and demand to see the people in there. Enjoy that visual.

Catholics are the OG of Christianity. So weird what people will do to force their will on others. Protestants are a knock off of Catholics.

  11. Thanksgiving convo devolved into the Catholic family admitting to voting for Trump hesitantly because their church told them he was the only pro-life candidate. I think this was wide spread. The old school boomer catholic Republican block is a significant voting force.

  12. My catholic mom, who voted for trump three times, congratulated me for protesting for immigrants and said this administration is crazy. For whatever thats worth

    > New York Times columnist David French calls Leo “the most important American in the world,”

That alone is enough to make Trump full-on attack the Pope.

**At Last They Came (for the Radical Centrist).**

First they came for the immigrants,I said, “Well, maybe they shouldn’t have been causing trouble,” —I thought following the rules was the same as doing what’s right.

Then they came for the trans people,I said, “It’s such a complicated issue,” —I didn’t want to make anyone uncomfortable.

Then they came for the gay people,I said, “I just wish everyone would stop talking about it,” —I thought silence was civility.

Then they came for the anti-fascists,I said, “Those people are too extreme,” —I didn’t realize that opposing them meant I was siding with fascists.

Then they came for the protesters,I said, “Well, they shouldn’t have blocked traffic,” —I believed order mattered more than justice.

Then they came for the media,I said, “They’re always lying anyway,” —I thought questioning everything was the same as thinking for myself.

Then they came for the scientists and universities,I said, “Experts have their own agendas,” —I confused research with ideology.

Then they came for the Democrats,I said, “Honestly, both parties are corrupt,” —I thought indifference was wisdom.

Then they came for the judges and lawyers,I said, “They’ve been political for years,” —I believed the system would still hold.

Then they came for my neighbors who spoke up,I said, “Who can even tell what’s true anymore?” —doubt felt safer than conviction.

Then, when I heard what they planned next,I hesitated —was this the plan all along?Had every step been leading here?I told myself it couldn’t be….

At last they came for me,and it was too late to resist —there was no one left who still thought both sides had a point.

  15. After 16 years of Catholic school, there’s no way you can be MAGA and simultaneously follow and believe in the teachings of Christ. At least that’s what I was taught by the Sisters of Charity and Marist Brothers. Unfortunately, nothing that anyone can say will lead Trumpers to believe otherwise.

  16. Raised Catholic but having left religion in college before MAGA, I’ve studied enough history to actively weaponize their own ‘faith’ against relatives. There’s no possible path to both being MAGA and staying true to the teachings and virtues of the faith they cling to. None. They’re diametrically opposed philosophies

Middling results to the brainwashed, but it’s as effective as any other method I’ve ever tried

  17. Power move by the Catholic church making an American pope at this time… And it does seem like the useful thing to do here is to get as many identifiable groups as possible to piss off the fragile dictator and his minions and cause a rift.

More and more people might find they have their ‘come to Jesus’ moment as they realise they aren’t as ‘in the club’ as they thought they were, and opt out while fundamentalist MAGAts become more marginalised and isolated.

A kind of ‘sorting hat’ to separate the hardliners from the merely misguided.

    >”[Matt Walsh,](https://thehill.com/people/matt-walsh/) another Trump defender, [attacked the bishops](https://biblerebel.com/tag/matt-walsh/), saying they didn’t make a video criticizing the [Biden ](https://thehill.com/people/joe-biden/)administration “for supporting, funding, and facilitating the mass slaughter of children in the womb,” or “its support for the castration and sexual mutilation of children.””

The Bishops DID condemn Biden. They even told Catholic priests that they didn’t have to give him communion because of his pro-choice stance on abortion. The way they treated the second-ever Catholic president was disgraceful, and led me to finally leave the church.
