Is it wrong of me to say I’d be happier hearing of someone like Hegseth being taken out than I am of hearing of boats of alleged drug runners being illegally blown up on another continent?

  2. I don’t understand all the attention on the second strike. What about the first one? For what I can tell there is no evidence that this was a drug smuggling boat. and even if there is, the USA I know (Pre-Trump) brings criminals to justice, it does not kill people indiscriminately.

What is more damning than saying

“I don’t think we’re necessarily going to ask for a declaration of war. I think we’re just gonna kill people that are bringing drugs into our country. We’re going to kill them. They’re going to be, like, dead,” Trump said

  4. Department of War to be renamed Department of Genocide & Executions (DOGE) to legitimize their recent actions

  5. Don’t get me wrong this shit is an obscene war crime to the letter, but is anyone else confused why _this_ story has so much more momentum than all the other obscenities? To they have him so dead to rights that there will actually be consequences?

  6. so i wonder how this could impact the, “imminent”, ground invasion we’ve been told about?

  7. How was it NOT on shakey ground to begin with ffs? The media is complicit in making these “seem” ok.

Senate Republicans (except Murkowski and Paul) along with Fetterman voted against a Democrat motion to reassert congessional power over declarations of war. They enabled this bullshit.

  9. It’s a war crime. Even if the US doesn’t recognize Den Haag, if they rule this to be a war crime, none of the guys can go anymore to Europe. No golfing in Scotland anymore.

Raping kids, attempted overthrowing of the US government, billion dollar crypto scams, but this is what’s going to undo them? I kind of doubt this survives this week’s news cycle. Trump will mail out checks and legalize marijuana or something and no one will ever mention it again. Hell the Epstein files were released two weeks ago and no one talks about it.

Administration could easily say it’s the responsibility of the soldier to disobey illegal orders. Can you imagine?

  12. DOD Law of War Manual explicitly uses this situation as illegal.

    > 18.3.2.1 Clearly Illegal Orders to Commit Law of War Violations. The requirement to refuse to comply with orders to commit law of war violations applies to orders to perform conduct that is clearly illegal or orders that the subordinate knows, in fact, are illegal. For example, orders to fire upon the shipwrecked would be clearly illegal. Similarly, orders to kill defenseless persons who have submitted to and are under effective physical control would also be clearly illegal. On the other hand, the duty not to comply with orders that are clearly illegal would be limited in its application when the subordinate is not competent to evaluate whether the rule has been violated.

  13. Who would’ve thought that just lazily murdering people in front of the whole world would lead to problems?

  14. Can anyone explain to me what has changed that is suddenly so ‘jarring’ about this event? When this happened I thought it was reported in mainstream media within days that there was a ‘double tap’ on this boat.

Given that the boat and crew were incapacitated by the first strike, it would seem obvious that the follow up strike was a war crime. I mean, I would argue using explosives on boats of civilian origins in international water with no present danger is pretty goddamn jarring if not a crime on its own merits, even if it were full of mega fentanyl or whatever.

Was there some kind of plausible deniability that the boat was dangerous and so the second strike was warranted? Did enough official reports get written to finally conclude the obvious murder was, in fact, murder? Or did someone just now read the part of the military code that said it is obviously illegal to murder shipwrecked sailors?

Is it really a Republican administration if they aren’t instigating new wars and being the bad guys?
