    They want the master list of everyone they’d like to put in camps. Nazi scumbags.

  2. There’s no legitimate reason for the DOJ to have this information. They play zero part in elections. Every state should be pushing back on this fascist bullshit.

    States run their own elections. The only reason the federal government wants this list is to punish political opponents.

    What is this crazy source? I’ve never heard of “democracy docket”.

    Anyway the States are:

    * Delaware
    * Maryland
    * New Mexico
    * Rhode Island
    * Vermont
    * Washington

    “including full names, residential addresses, birth dates, driver’s license numbers and the last four digits of Social Security numbers”

    Why are they demanding what they already have? All they need to do is look up names and ssn in the federal database.

    Kinda feels like they are trying to threaten with the fear of, we will know who you vote for, and voting one way may get you sent away or killed.

  7. >Democratic and Republican election officials alike have [warned](https://www.democracydocket.com/news-alerts/states-want-to-know-why-does-the-doj-want-their-voter-rolls-really/) that the DOJ’s demands violate state privacy laws, risk exposing voters’ information for political targeting and trample the Constitution’s delegation of elections to the states.

    There is essentially no Department of “Justice.” The senior ranks in the department have been purged of career professionals, and replaced by trump’s personal attorneys, sycophants, and allies. This is trump’s Department of Lawfare. He already tried to overturn election results back in 2021. Now, facing record levels of unpopularity heading into the midterms, he’s going to abuse the government’s powers to rig those elections.

    trump also tried to collect every voter’s information back in 2017, yet even his own voting “czar,” Kris Kobach, wouldn’t comply.

  8. In addition to this information already being public this administration has proven it’s extremely irresponsible with the data it already has access to.

    Wow, Alabama, Mississippi, Florida, Texas, Oklahoma and Tennessee

    Who would have thought

  10. They’ve gutted the VRA so there’s no really legal framework for them to gain this data now. The Federal government gets certified election results from the States and that’s it. They have no other part to play now.

  11. MayIServeYouWell on

    The purpose of this is to undermine future elections. They know blue states will not comply. They’ll use this to claim the election results are fraudulent, and therefore invalid.

    This is how we lose democracy.

  12. This is one of those other cut and dry things where our judicial system, SC especially, has zero reasons to give the government any deference and rule against them without any arguments being needed.

    Yet, we have to go through the entirely pointless process and sit on pins and needles wondering if the high court will give the government some more bullshit deference.

  13. While an honest search through these would find some small amount of fraud, they will be used to manufacture a narrative that there’s a *massive* amount of fraud in these states, and they will attempt to use that “evidence” to invalidate votes from these states in upcoming elections. They will release reports showing thousands and thousands of cases of voter fraud. “Bob Smith of Rhode Island voted in the election, but Bob Smith of Rhode Island died 3 years ago!” When people look deeply into the report, it will turn out that the vast majority of these are different people etc. The Bob Smith who died is not the Bob Smith who voted. That’s been the pattern with this so far. It won’t matter though because the MAGA base will put their full faith in the *official government report* because it props up their existing beliefs. No amount of evidence to the contrary will sway their opinions, but it doesn’t matter regardless because information to the contrary will never reach their eyeballs.

    Ops! Did y’all actually think the midterms were going to be ran by the states? Wait does anyone here still think trumps also not running in 2028????

  15. Wisconsin has non-partisan primaries; so how would anyone know which party affiliation a voter has?

  16. Another attempt for the republicans to cheat at another elections through manipulation of ES&S machines and tabulators by Elon Musk and Peter Thiel

  17. Lostintranslation390 on

    The DOJ would need a law giving them authority to have that information. Whether such a law is cpnstituitional would be hard to aay. Theoretically, congress may legislate the time manner ajd place for federal elections.

  18. So they have no problem with a national gun owner registry, I take it? With detailed information on the background and whereabouts of all gun owners?
