  1. From the article:

On Wednesday, the State Department announced that the United States Institute of Peace, a non-profit think tank, has been renamed to the Donald J. Trump Institute of Peace in order “to reflect the greatest dealmaker in our nation’s history”.

Trump has sought to cast himself as a peacemaker on the global stage, though his bid for the Nobel Peace Prize has been unsuccessful.

Former board members of the institute have argued the institute stands outside the president’s authority, while the Trump administration contends it is firmly within the purview of the executive branch.

A federal judge has already ruled that the government’s takeover was illegal. That judgement is stayed while the government appeals, which is the only reason the government continues to control the building.

Nothing tells peace, democracy and freedom, as naming everything after the head of state…

I have assumed that it was a tradition in western democracies to not name official things after living people and especially not active politicians. But I guess the US ceased to belong to that group and wants to be a banana Republic instead, where everything has the purpose of praising the dear leader.

  3. This has to be corrected with everything they’re done. How are there so many congresspersons that go along with his garbage?

One more thing to add to the list of “Things-to-change-when-trump-is-out-of-office”

  5. His name being associated with a non-profit is the height of irony. Surely he will be grifted with the Nobel now. /s

And yet he sucks at diplomacy and pretty much wants to bomb everyone and their mother — whether it’s warranted or otherwise. This monster must be caged behind electric fencing.

  7. Another South Park episode writes itself.

Next president should name a bunch of garbage land fills after DJT.

Alternatively, the more classy version would be to name bills and EOs after the Trump orders/bills they’re fixing/doing damage control on. US will need to recover from this admin for decades, the respective bills may as well reference the problems’ causes. Instead of inflation reduction act it’ll be the Trump Tariff Relief Act. The Trump Discrimination Rescission Bill. The Trump Bribes Prevention Act.

The one genuinely good thing Trump does is exposing the weaknesses of the system for everyone to see – and for the next admin to reform.

  8. This building is a very visible DC landmark. It’s not quite as bad as putting “Trump” on the Washington Monument but it’s close.

For as long as I can remember no one was honored with a monument while they were still alive. Then the Republicans started slapping Reagan’s name on everything. “National Airport” became the Reagan National Airport.” It was tacky.

This is beyond tacky. It’s downright Russian, like the gold leaf chinze growing on the White House. It’s a sort of cancer.

In the announcement, they actually said that Trump has ended eight wars this year. I can’t with these people anymore.

This is the same guy who can’t wait to bomb Venezuela…

We’re just so far past being able to tell what’s parody and what’s real. This guy’s combination of ego, insecurity, and immaturity is terrifying. And the number of sycophantic careerists willing to go along with him is depressing.
