  1. Sooo, the same shit they were pushing back in 2010 during the ACA/Obamacare shit that left us without a proper single payer option and ridiculous premiums? Fuck that.

  2. If your living paycheck to paycheck, a healthy HSA is probably out of reach for most. See how much a joint replacement cost, a bout of prostate cancer, then figure your on the hook for 20%. Sell the farm.

“Don’t burden our health care system with your poverty” is the vibe I get from these people.

  4. HDHP + HSA is great for the upper middle class and the wealthy but it’s not a solution for the people losing ACA subsidies because they’re getting subsidies in the first place because they don’t have the income to put a bunch of extra money in an HSA.

  5. We don’t need a push on hugh-deductible plans.

But, HSAs should have replaced the use it or lose it accounts decades ago.

These idiots think the consumer can just “shop around” like they are buying a new car. Prices are not transparent and the public doesn’t have the time or knowledge to know what they are buying into for complex care even when they are healthy. Throw a medical emergency into the mix and it gets even more dire. Cassidy can stfu.

GOP: “C’mon, team, let’s really work together on this. There HAS to be a way we can make things worse for everybody if we put our minds to it!’

  8. ANYTHING to make it better for big business.

The US leads the world in medical bankruptcy.

Why does healthcare cost so much in this country compared to all other countries? Even insurance companies are wondering this. This is the root problem of American healthcare.

We’ve always had an attitude of let the market decide what healthcare prices should be. However, market forces are not truly at play when deciding the cost of medications and other treatments.

We have a patchwork system in which insurance actually covers up the real cost of things. Hospitals, doctors, Pharma companies, device makers, all charge exorbitant prices because they can. And they’re enabled to charge what they want because the consumer is not ultimately subject to the price of their treatments.

So we have this Byzantine system where bureaucrats from insurance companies decide what to pay for negotiating with bureaucrats from hospitals who try to get every last penny from them. It’s a system that of course opens the door to fraud waste and abuse.

Other countries simply set wage and price controls on healthcare. They realize that patients will pay whatever they have to for their own health and have no real say in setting the price. This makes market forces particularly ineffective in controlling costs. So the government just decides what the price should be.

We have to break away from this ideology that capitalism is the best thing for all economic sectors in every circumstance. Healthcare is different. Corrupting the system with middlemen that serve no purpose but to extract profit for themselves is the cause for skyrocketing costs.

And private equity companies need to pay much higher taxes. Reform carried interest so that people who are already wealthy don’t get an incentive to not contribute to society.

  10. So, pay large amounts of money so when you get sick you can pay larger amounts of money until someone else can pay the rest until they reject the claim, stating that the treatment wasn’t medically necessary?

  11. It’s the most profitable model for the insurance companies. Poor people that can’t afford to fund an HSA account or people with expensive health problems will suffer and that’s a sacrifice the insurance companies are willing to make.

  12. I had a PET scan done. Was $15,000. For one scan. How many decades would I have to save in a HSA to cover that?

-When was the last time Republicans actually helped anyone but the rich?

Let’s stop a moment here to look at the finances of the US. Pushing HSA. The Trump savings plan. Retirements. It’s all in the market. The market is over valued at nearly 1.5:1. And they aren’t behaving normally. Tesla stock as an example. AI companies all treating money like they are the next Amazon.

This is the US putting all of it’s eggs in one basket. When the bottom of that basket drops out, the crash is going to be rough. We can’t have the US government propping up the US economy on rickety stilts because they don’t want to have the hard conversations. That’s what this is. Healthcare is easy. It’s been done in the Bismarck Healthcare model in several modern countries for 125 years or more. Halve the military and start working on the debt. Halve the police and start investing in other industries like the solar and wind investments we’ve made for the last decade plus. Can you find failures? Sure. But we’ve had tremendous success too. We have piles of lithium in the US. What are we doing with it? We need to develop the next jobs instead of trying to go back to compete in the 50’s (manufacturing) like these old politicians want.

We are headed for collapse unless we find serious politicians willing to die on the cross for the good things we need. This herd mentality and team politics is just us being lemmings marching over the cliff.

  14. High Deductible Plans benefits corporations and their Donors. The GOP cannot do anything unless their it benefits its donors

  15. Make no mistake: this isn’t Representatives representing the will of their constituents.

They are pushing *what the insurance companies are telling them to push.*

There is no benefit to the American people of this system. It benefits the companies, full stop.

HSA is a mini 401k, thats why its an easy sell. To everyone already at that level of income.

  17. I have an HSA. Thinking of canceling my “insurance” completely and paying out of pocket. Once I told my dentist I was paying out of pocket, she took off 3/4 of the $3000 bill and only did the necessary work. $900.

  18. Conservatives against Medicare for All: “But I don’t want to have to pay for other people’s healthcare!”

Everyone: “How exactly do you think insurance works?”

  19. Oh look, more situations where people still get f’d over if they get an expensive disease or need surgery. They really don’t want a single payer system, and they’ll keep ruining peoples lives with it.

They’ve been pushing this as their solution for healthcare affordability since the GWB days.

Their solution has been out there for decades. It hasn’t helped. It’s a failed solution pushed by a party that has run out of ideas.

Jesus fucking christ this isn’t a health plan, its an investment scheme for rich people and a bankruptcy scheme for poor people
