  1. From the article:

A top official at the U.S. Department of Education has been keeping a controversial flag linked to Christian nationalism and the Jan. 6 insurrection hung outside his office, according to the agency’s union and a department employee who has observed it.

It’s the latest in a series of instances in which the flag – which depicts a pine tree and the words “An Appeal to Heaven” – has been associated with agencies and figures at the highest levels of the federal government.

Though long tied to the American Revolution, the banner in more recent years “has been adopted primarily by evangelical Christian nationalist groups,” as well as the Proud Boys and certain neo-Nazi groups, according to the Global Project Against Hate and Extremism, an independent nonprofit organization. It was flown in 2021 by rioters at the U.S. Capitol as they tried to prevent Congress from certifying the 2020 presidential election results.

  2. I would be much less concerned about a flag like this being hung on someone’s private office in an environment where people were still allowed have other flags like the pride flag.

If we’re locking it down to just official government flags then that should flow both ways.

  3. >Flag linked to Christian nationalism, Jan. 6

Hate to break it to you but that’s just the U.S. Flag.

^(The flag being talked about in the article is the “Appeal to Heaven” one, btw.)

  4. It seems like guy may also be linked to the “victims of communism foundation”, that quote victim figures that include:

    – Soviet soldiers that died fighting Germany in WWII
    – German soldiers that died fighting Russia in WWII

and have even recently tried to expand these figures to include all COVID-19 deaths because somehow, Mao + China + COVID = Victims of Communism.

Wonderful that we have such a fact based individual at the Department of Education.

  5. do unto others as the jan 6 rioters did to police officers. if you fly a blue-striped flag does that absolve you from that particular sin? or can it be any flag?

  6. To distract from McMahon’s involvement in the abuse of teenage boys during her time with the WWF, no doubt.

  7. sorryforbeingrite on

Uhhhh George Washington commissioned that flag… what morons are upset over flags from the revolution period?

  8. All of the problems in my life came from religion forced on me. Once I decided to step away, and just show integrity, be a good person, and be thoughtful and fair, my life changed for the better. I was able to shake the racism that I was taught, and the “sheep” mentality to follow.

  9. flags represent values. if a flag showed up at the capitol on jan 6 and now hangs in the education department, we should ask what values are being taught

  10. They are neither Christian nor American.  They are Republicans, loyal only to themselves, worshipping nothing but themselves.

  11. Linda McMahon is unqualified for her position to lead the Education Department

But she will do anything Trump tells her to do
