Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh has suggested President Donald Trump could attempt to deploy troops to U.S. cities under the Insurrection Act.
Kavanaugh’s remarks came in a separate opinion after the court on Tuesday refused to allow the Trump administration to deploy National Guard troops in the Chicago area to support its immigration crackdown.
The high court declined the administration’s emergency request to overturn a ruling by U.S. District Judge April Perry that had blocked the deployment of troops. Three justices—Samuel Alito, Clarence Thomas and Neil Gorsuch—publicly dissented.

The SC’s reasoning in the opinion was that the President can not deploy the National Guard in Illinois because he is pretending there is a “rebellion” when there isn’t. Rebellion is the statuatory criterion for deploying the National Guard.
Conservatives, helpfully, not having been asked: however, if the President pretends there is an *insurrection* when there isn’t, instead of a rebellion, he could invoke the Insurrection Act, that would be no problem. Get it? GET IT??
