I remember when this box of chocolates used to be between 5-14$ max. It was Boxing Day and there was almost no sales, these companies just get more greedy and push the limits and I've had enough.
I go to the shops like twice a week, and every fortnight or so the prices go up. It's actually ridiculous. It's gotten so bad that I have to go to discount stores and buy stuff on clearance just to afford food. There was supposed to be an investigation a while ago against Supermarkets overpricing and raising their prices illegally. Inflation shouldn't have a reason to be getting worse every two weeks.
(This isn't just chocolate, this was just the most outrageously blatant one I could find.)
The government promised to investigate this but we haven't heard from it since and Farmers get underpaid. I want to do something about this but I don't know where to start. All I've been doing is starting to take photos of everything with dates to prove how outrageous this all is.

Blame the retailers and their suppliers. They choose the prices they set.
I just don’t take part in this. Vote with your wallet, stop buying so much.
You can buy a lot of big blocks of chocolate in Aldi for $30 and it’s better.
I feel your pain. Everything is getting more expensive and society is becoming more unequal.
Unfortunately not enough people will refuse to buy it. If you got some kind of national movement going they would notice the drop in sales and price them fairly.
You’re not forced to buy the product. If you think it’s overpriced, don’t buy it.
30 fucking dollars? We all died in 2019 and this is hell
The big supermarkets carry margins of around 2%. Now that is an average – some product lines will be worse than others; but generally speaking, the supermarkets if they ran as a non profit would lower their prices by a maximum of 2%.
Inflation _is_ the cause and it’s not some supernatural force – it has very real causes that can be controlled.
That’s why the shelves are full of them still.
Make sure you don’t buy them even when they go on sale. That way the greedy retailer and greedy manufacturer both make a loss (if you buy on sale, only the manufacturer makes the loss).
It not inflation it’s price gouging.
They price it at $30 when the real selling price is $15. Stores know this and so does consumers. Consumers would only buy when 50% off sales are on.
50% is placed at random intervals so consumers feel to stock up when at 50% off even though the real price is $15. More sales more profits.
Woolies has the 470g box on sale for $11. It’s not just inflation making it expensive, it’s also the price of cocoa.
Tastes like crap too. Pass.
$15 at Kmart:

Cadbury Special Treats Chocolate Mini Bars 12 pack 180g – $5

It’s not solely inflation, the cocoa shortage has contributed to increased prices, then also add on the “we know you’ll pay anyway” tax from Cadbury and likely Woolies bumping up the margin to offset other products.
While inflation has definitely contributed to production and supply cost increased through transportation, ingredients and manufacturing pricing, there’s other contributing factors.
I would not waste $30 on a box of shitty quality chocolate that realistically has about $7 worth of chocolate in it. You’re paying for packaging and convenience.
Supply and demand. If people are willing to pay $30 for it, then there’s no reason for them not to sell it for $30. Stop buying overpriced shit.
Inflation is an umbrella term that includes price gouging as a factor. Which is exactly what this is.
So don’t buy it. You can get it for less elsewhere.
$30 is new $5 dear.
Ita all made overseas from lousy bitter chocolate that needs extra sugar added.
I bought multiple boxes in this size from Kmart a week before Christmas. They were $12 each. Expiry date was in February so maybe that’s why. The short expiry date won’t be an issue for the people I gifted them to. lol
The answer is to stop buying
