I think there’s a series of rightwing forces which are trying to make his response look bad on this issue. Netanyahu, Ley, and even perhaps some in the rightwing Labor faction, are open throwing shade on his performance.
…however, he’s the only one who seems to get that it’s about unity, and not sowing division. Other politicians have over reacted, been hysterical, or are trying to take advantage of a tragedy that they shouldn’t be.

Honestly, I do wonder what he’s worried about. I used to oppose a royal commission, too, but then I realised the Commonwealth doesn’t have to cooperate with the state. His reluctance isn’t making sense on its face.
