US Christians gather to protest violence against trans people: ‘Not in Jesus’ name’. US Christians gathered at the Wisconsin State Capitol to protest the “religious condemnation” of the trans community.
>[Reverend Liz Edman](https://www.queervirtue.com/about-liz), an Episcopal priest and co-founder of the Stone Catcher Project, which helped organise the event, said of the anti-trans rhetoric in the US: “Transgender people are under violent assault, both physical and spiritual. For too long, such violence has been justified by appeals to religion. But we aim to follow Jesus, who taught us to catch stones thrown at vulnerable people, not throw them ourselves.”
>Edman continued: “So many people in the name of God are pointing at others and saying, you are a problem. You are a problem. Therefore, you are condemned. We’re coming to get you.
>“We believe that faith is something that we’re responsible to live well. And anytime you point fingers at somebody else and go after them, you have violated the terms of our covenant with God.”
>Edman added that the event intentionally coincided with the annual Feast of the Holy Innocents, which is in remembrance of the massacre of young children by King Herod the Great following the birth of Jesus.
>“The story is a stark reminder to Christians today that faith demands courage, especially when innocent people are being preyed upon for political gain.”
It’s good to see Christians calling their Christian nationalist counterparts out for the fascists that they are.

It would be nice if christians calling out christians was the norn.
They have a lot of mechanisms to instantly dismiss members of their faith as not christian and not counting them towards the hate they spread.
‘if they did X they aren’t one of us’.
Hopefully they keep up this behaviour of calling out fellow Christians using faith to harm others.

I’m an agnostic, former atheist. I grew up Catholic ( against my will). I understand the hate toward religion in general, but there are so many of them that truly do have good intentions, and are good people.
It’s the bad ones that give them such a bad name. Jesus would accept everyone, that’s common knowledge. Whether it’s true or not, idk. What I do know is that all bibles are stories written by man. However, the intentions of many religious people are good. And they have the right to believe in whatever they want, just like I have the right to not believe in organized religion.
It blows my mind that the crazy religious freaks who think that gay people, trans, people from other religions/with different beliefs etc, need to be saved and or are sick or crazy. They are brainwashed and involved in a cult.

It’s a damn shame that Christians actually following the teachings of Christ is newsworthy.

I am an atheist and I have my issues with most organized religions.
But I will not split ideological hairs when our beliefs align.
You don’t believe religion should be weaponized against a marginalized group?
Awesome. Neither do I. Let’s move forward from there.

This is actually kind of wild if you think about it, a group of Christians showing up to say “no, religion shouldn’t be used to justify beating up trans people.” Like a little Jesus plot twist nobody saw coming. It doesn’t erase everything else, but it’s a hell of an angle.
