so what is the deal with this young dude who has the Maladministration on speed dial?

    > Shirley has been making shock-value YouTube videos for years, starting with pranks before wading into political exposés.

    > The Utah native vlogged consistently throughout high school, amassing some 7,000 followers before graduating in 2020, according to a profile that year from local NBC affiliate KSL-TV.

    > “Some people might not know who Nick Shirley is yet, but one day, they will,” it reads.

    > One of his earliest stunts was flying to New York City at age 16 without telling his parents. They escalated from there: sneaking into influencer Jake Paul’s wedding, tricking TikTokkers into auditioning for a fake Justin Bieber music video, riding a bike over a ramp lit on fire. He also filmed himself in the crowd outside the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6.

    > Then came a hiatus: Shirley announced in December 2021 that he would be taking a two-year break from YouTube to serve on a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Santiago, Chile.

    > He returned to the platform in 2023 with a video interviewing undocumented immigrants at the U.S.-Mexico border in Arizona. From that point on, his work took on a decidedly political bent, with man-on-the-street style interviews focused on topics including illegal immigration, the 2024 election, President Trump’s deployment of federal troops to blue cities and the ensuing protests against them.

TL;DR this guy is a typical online goof with few marketable skills beyond engagement farming.

In my personal experience knowing LDS church members, they are usually conservative but not jerks about politics, similar to Mitt Romney. (Back in 2016 Utah had their own Ross Perot type of candidate, Evan McMullin.)

    So he is a moron?

  3. The reincarnation of James “Pimpy” O’Keefe. And of course Team Orange would love a fake lying asshole like him.

He should rightfully be concerned for his safety. I don’t advocate violence, but when your entire schtick is using deception and lies to hurt other people, some small percentage of those who have been hurt are going to look for revenge.

  5. 1. It’s the holidays – many daycares are likely going to be closed.
    2. Daycare centers that are open don’t just let random strangers in off the street.

So in a nutshell we have a 23 year old content creator aka You Tuber, with a desire to become famous or “Go viral”, expecting day care staff to answer questions, and allow him access, deciding if businesses are operating fraudulently.
Shirley’s qualifications lie in making high school prank videos, he has very limited real world experience, no childcare or social work credentials, is not a parent, has no real experience in journalism or reporting, yet somehow is under the illusion he has a right to know how childcare facilities are being run.

  7. “I have a foreboding of an America in my children’s or grandchildren’s time — when the United States is a service and information economy; when nearly all the manufacturing industries have slipped away to other countries; when awesome technological powers are in the hands of a very few, and no one representing the public interest can even grasp the issues; when the people have lost the ability to set their own agendas or knowledgeably question those in authority; when, clutching our crystals and nervously consulting our horoscopes, our critical faculties in decline, unable to distinguish between what feels good and what’s true, we slide, almost without noticing, back into superstition and darkness…

The dumbing down of America is most evident in the slow decay of substantive content in the enormously influential media, the 30 second sound bites (now down to 10 seconds or less), lowest common denominator programming, credulous presentations on pseudoscience and superstition, but especially a kind of celebration of ignorance.”

  8. “Youtube journalist” …lmao.

Social media is the number 1 cancer on society causing the destabilization of democratic norms and systems that benefit society and the world as a whole.

It’s being weaponized by ding dongs, crackpots and shitforbrains of all types and ages.

  9. All I need to know is he took a bunch of other men with cameras to a daycare to try and film kids.

Why are people listening to someone who doesn’t know what they are talking about?

Remember, you don’t need to be on Twitter, Insta, YouTube etc.

  11. He knew that if he visited enough places, he’d uncover some sort of fraud somewhere.

Fraud is everywhere. But why visit only Somali-owned businesses? Hmmmm

As someone who’s worked in social services for a decade, can someone Sparta kick this guy to somewhere else. People like this suck.

  13. He’s a conservative. A grifter. I know that’s redundant but I can’t help that they all fall for the same trick.

  14. Reminder that he paid hispanic men money to hold pro-biden signs infront of the white house as a way to fear monger for the 2024 election. He’s just a glorified shit stirrer. Fraud is bad but I have zero tolerance for letting right wingers set the narrative regarding this situation.

Its important for everyone reading to understand: Conservatives give zero fucks about fraud. They legitimately don’t care and this isn’t something they have any personal conviction on. And when talking to them about it there’s no need to give any “to be fair” or “okay thats a decent point” or whatever to them, because they aren’t having the same conversation you’re having (aka that fraud is bad and those that are guilty of it should be punished). This is all just another chance to attack a community.
