Congratulations to President Donald J. Trump and the United States of America for the awesome operation in Venezuela that has captured the tyrant dictator, and has hopefully started a process of liberation.

Australia should stand shoulder to shoulder with our US allies and offering unwavering support.

No civilian lives were lost, which means that this is not a war as of now, just an awesome operation.

    Hopefully Iran is next.

Come on, surely we can see which side of history the Trump administration will find itself on. I know we’re tied at the hip to the US but surely there’s a point at which you should pull out a saw

What is peaceful and democratic about illegal attacking a country unprovoked and then installing a puppet government?

  4. Trump has time constraints to accomplish anything in Venezuela and the mess will be dumped on Congress because of the time limits of The War Powers Resolution (Act).

    * **48-Hour Notification:** The President must report to Congress within 48 hours of introducing U.S. armed forces into hostilities or imminent hostilities.
    * **60-Day Limit:** Forces must be withdrawn after 60 days unless Congress declares war or provides specific authorization for the use of military force.
    * **30-Day Extension:** A 30-day extension for safe withdrawal is allowed, potentially bringing the total to 90 days.

Its interesting that the mainstream media haven’t mentioned these limitations. Maybe they assume Trump will try to avoid them.

Putin is fuming that he couldn’t even touch Zelenskyy in nearly 4 years and trump made this dude dress up in Nike tech fleece on some carrier within 3 hours, and barely any civilian casualty involved.

Anyone who pretends this is about anything other than capture and control over resources is either lying or an idiot. Genuinely laughable that anyone is making the argument that this is about the defence of democracy.

  7. Disappointing but unsurprising. What’s the bet if the US puts boots on the ground we’ll follow suit

  8. The fact we cant even point out international law has been broken. Regardless of what you think of Maduro, invading and kidnapping another countries leader is not only fucked but will end badly. Its like America learnt nothing from Iraq. I much prefer the SpanishPrime Minister Pedro Sanchez comments: “Spain did not recognize the Maduro regime. But neither will it recognize an intervention that violates international law and pushes the region toward a horizon of uncertainty and belligerence.”

It’s very good that a dictator is gone but this is far from a good thing overall

First kidnapping the leader of a foreign country is very much an act of war and now that the US has done this Russia and China have the precedent to do the same, this has heavily damaged the international order to combat a country which by all accounts wasn’t a threat.

Secondly it’s far more likely the US has just created a new money sink/quagmire than achieved any democratic victory. Civilians celebrated in mass when Saddam was overthrown in Iraq, it didn’t mean things turned out for the better.

All Trumps done is create a political power vacuum in Venezuela right now that almost guarantees instability. With any US backed opposition inherently going to be viewed as illegitimate. With all Trumps talk of ‘US Oil’ I highly doubt a US backed government is going to make decisions for the benefit of Venezuelans.

  10. Trump acts like the Mafia Don, using the US military as his personal goon squad. If you pay him protection money like the Saudi Prince, we will even bomb your enemies like he did in Yemen.

They should’ve just done the appeasement thing instead of extraditing him like this, how dare the US do this in 3 hours, isn’t it in their dna to prolong wars and the toppling of dictators ?
Why did bush take his sweet time with Sadam ?

  12. As if the US/Trump administration cared one cent about deposing a dictator. It’s an obvious grab for one of the richest oil reserves in the world. What should alarm people is that even with any benefit on (potentially) installing a democratically elected leader, the US has violated international law in attacking a foreign country further embolding the agenda of other major powers, thinking of China and Russia. This might kick off the new year from a snowball to an avalanche of more global instability and conflict.
