The bizarre thing is that they didn’t even bother with a half assed justification this time…and half the country is perfectly fine with it.

If not the last time Americans decided to fuck over a country to get oil this time I’m boycotting the USA.
A hard task but not impossible, yes pharma and a few other essentials may get exemptions and I’m still on reddit listening to YouTube. It’s called an adblocker. Bleed this dying empire dry. We all need to stop helping it.

Nothing any (Republican) President does is illegal since John Roberts’ Kangaroo Kourt made them above the law.
_All_ historical precedent is null and void. Rule of law is dead and gone. This is the opening chapter of the GOP’s prerogative state.

What an interesting change of opinion from The New Yorker.
Now it’s even more clear why our troops were warned to not follow illegal orders.

The main issue with this is not the legality. This would be reprehensible even if it were approved by Congress.
This is explicitly a war for oil. It is imperialistic. We do not have the right to do this. Our adventurism *never* ends up well for the native population.

I know it’s easy to focus on Trump and rightfully so.
But these illegal orders were passed down a chain of command of people approving these and moving forward. People died because Trump ordered it, sure, but someone pulled the trigger and dropped the bombs. Several people passed along these orders and followed them.
There is no order too illegal or requests too outlandish for the military to refuse. If he told them to invade LA and drop bombs and shoot anyone in the way, it would happen overnight.

I’m so glad everyone care so much about the Venezuelan people. I’m sure we’ll allow them to select their own leader right? I’m sure we won’t deport those who fled from there either!

How is this different than the shit the US has pulled over the past century? Especially regarding South America. There isn’t a country in South America that wasn’t fucked up by U. S. American imperialism.

It’s probably going to be found legal domestically and constitutional under the absolutely insane authoritarian interpretations of article 2 that have been built up and established in courts over decades (re: panama), and since when has the US ever cared or held itself to be bound by international law?
Courts and laws won’t stop any of this, legislators seem incompetent to do anything too – those systems have failed us totally. Other countries need to at least put harsh sanctions on us immediately, and the American people need to start taking direct and personal action instead of waiting for absent leadership to save us from on-high or magical thinking that the law enforces itself – at some point in any political system the buck stops with the people.
