Australian right-wing media: Wait, guys, we haven’t heard some irrelevant sportspeople’s opinions on an RC yet

Another day, another batch of irrelevant people lined up by conservative media to demand a royal commission.
What’s next, “Australia’s top chefs demand royal commission”?

I genuinely thought this was going to be satire. Who cares what sporting “heroes” demand?

Okay, why should I give a shit these randoms have an opinion?

Who cares what a bunch of celebrities think?

These high profile folk starting petitions and sending it around to their peers to force their will on the Federal Government is highlighting how much they lack reach and influence in modern Australia. These elitist & wealthy people are out of touch with the average joe in the suburbs.
It’s really reminiscent of the Democrats in 2016 and 2024. Same arrogance, same energy.

This is the weirdest most frustrating push for this royal commission. The plea to albo saying “hate has no place in our society” is obviously something the ALP agrees with, the only disagreement is whether a royal commission would be a worthwhile use of time and money, but no one in favour of the commission seems interested in actually making their case, so it really feels to me just like a political tool to go after a PM they already didn’t like.
“A royal commission is the most credible and unifying pathway to understanding what went wrong, ensuring accountability, restoring social harmony and taking Australia forward with a meaningful, practical plan of action.” – okay, but why? I don’t remember past commissions being a unifying moment for Australia. It just seems silly, the intelligence services made mistakes and will have to do reviews that won’t generally be made public. Maybe I’m just biased as an alp supporter, just wish right after a horrible tragedy in my city we could stop all talking past each other.

But what does Ja Rule think? Where is Ja? Surely the media needs to track him down to get his opinion on a RC

I do wonder if any of the people who signed actually know what a royal commission involves?

Hey so there is a reason we don’t usually listen to sports people about serious political issues. Maybe just talk to the actual experts.

The letter has good intentions, it just doesn’t align with the stitch up the commercial networks + LNP really want out of such a Royal Commission

Any person whose entire career was sports , needs to shut the fuck up.
I’m fucking sick to death with sports flogs being overly represented in the media as bastions of people we should listen to…
Fuck them all.

I mean, if they really want a second RC alongside the one already been announced and the already announced enquiry, they’re welcome to stump up the money and pay for it as a collective.
Didn’t hear this amount of energy from John Alexander and Nova Peris calling for a RC in to the Lindt Cafe at the time considering both were in parliament when it happened.

Please start just listing those NOT demanding one. It would be much shorter. Albo, Burke, Wong and a few online ALP diehards with cooker takes that it’s all just one big “Murdoch conspiracy” and not a perfectly valid and required thing to do after the worst attack on our soil in history. New Zealand didn’t hesitate after Christchurch, it’s pretty worrying why Albo is so hesitant now. Screams guilt of some sort if you ask me but let’s see what the RC uncovers before making guesses about its findings.
