I genuinely do not understand how this is not more of a national scandal. Across the entire NHS crisis that has been going on for *years* now, I honestly dread to think of how many people have died unnecessarily. I remember reading once just the blockage of ambulances at A&E by itself was leading to an estimated ~500 excess deaths/week and that still seems to be as much of a problem today as it was like 3 years ago…

Well, yeah. Like, british people find more ways to kill themselves every year so ofc the NHS will be under ever greater demands

I’m going to get downvoted into oblivion for this because… Reddit
The NHS needs more funding
The main users of NHS resources are those in the older brackets (ages>55)
The demographic with the most wealth in the country are also those over 55.
Simple equation. Simple solution. Nobody wants to handle that hot potato though

One the biggest and most short sighted decisions in regards to the NHS was the closing down most convalescent hospitals.
If they hadn’t of done this we would not have the issues we have with the lack of beds we do today.
I do not blame people for refusing to leave hospital when they have nobody at home to care for them, this wouldn’t be an issue had we not closed most of the convalescent hospitals.
