Ron DeSantis destroyed the Pulse memorial. A major newspaper is fighting his secrecy. The paper called the memorial’s removal “sacrilege on sacred ground.”

>“Why the sneak attack?” the *Sentinel* asked about the crosswalk’s late-night removal, in its editorial. “Why didn’t Orlando get the chance to appeal, as other cities were granted? Most compelling: Why did the [F]DOT destroy a crosswalk that the department itself installed just a few months prior, complete with the rainbow colors — and even boasted about on social media?”
>“When the *Sentinel* and other media outlets asked the state for records that would answer those questions, the only response was silence,” the editorial continued.
Ron DeSantis through this move has shown that he is okay with committing genocide on LGBTQIA+ people, because dead people are more preferable than having a welcoming place.

Joke’s on DeSantis, the guy wasn’t even intentionally targeting the LGBT community!

The fact that ALL Christians didn’t protest the removal of a memorial to 49 human beings that were slaughtered, speaks volumes about their personal faith.

It just clicked with me.
I can tell you first hand, FDOT would not mess with or alter memorials (bikes, crosses, Teddy bears) on roads and sidewalks even when road construction was performed.
This was very odd behavior.

Yeah I guarantee he and the rest of the Christian nationalists scoffed when it happened. I can say with 100% confidence that many conversations where had in Christian homes where the victims were blamed and god punished them for their sins. I can say this with confidence because as a kid I was part of those same conversations growing up in my home, church, and school. They don’t really care about the people who died.

People really should be looking into why almost a decade later, there wasn’t a memorial built where the nightclub used to be. Why did they raise tens of millions of dollars to build a memorial, pay themselves 6 figure salaries and spend millions on “designing” something and then never building it?
Now people are fighting over asphalt and sidewalks when there **should have been an actual memorial made for something other than stepping on**.

so sad
>Florida Gov. [Ron DeSantis](https://www.lgbtqnation.com/2023/03/who-is-ron-desantis-where-does-he-stand-on-lgbtq-rights/) (R) ordered the FDOT [to paint over the crosswalk](https://www.lgbtqnation.com/2025/08/ron-desantis-paints-over-pulse-memorial-rainbow-crosswalk-in-the-of-night/) in the middle of the night, but the FDOT didn’t notify any Orlando city officials – not even the mayor – beforehand. Four months ago, the *Sentinel* requested FDOT records related to the crosswalk’s destruction. The FDOT stonewalled the request, leading the publication to file its recent lawsuit, the *Sentinel* [explained](https://www.orlandosentinel.com/2025/12/28/editorial-we-shouldnt-have-to-fight-for-crosswalk-records-but-we-will/) in a recent editorial.
