Realistically its unlikely he is guilty of anything but what good faith reason would he have for not wanting a royal commission?

I thought so. Probably the best call from a political perspective, at this stage.

Time for Albanese to be brought to account for what his antisemitism caused
HotPersimessage62 on
Hopefully the reports are true and Albanese backflips. Albanese still doesn’t seem to realise that HE can dictate the terms of reference – much better than the Coalition winning in 2028 and setting an extremely punitive terms of reference designed to punish Labor.Â
I believe Labor should ensure that the RC’s focus covers the extremist Greens political party which is the number one driver and facilitator of antisemitic sentiment due to the platform and prominence they have as Australia’s third largest political party.
But an RC needs to be spicy, and if Labor takes a hit from any findings then so be it. The RC needs to summon people who lead or are connected to activist groups, institutions and political parties that have promoted and facilitated antisemitic sentiment. A lot of people think the RC is just about the final report – it’s a lot more than that. It’s about summoning some of the worst people and groups in Australia when it comes to this issue and give them a platform of humiliation and shame in a tense environment which is likely to uncover important information in that process, and likely to deter their supporters and followers from their current views and behaviour.

The good thing about this is, he can jump on this by saying we listened to the feedback of the Australian people and because we have heard you loud and clear we have decided that because this is what the Australian people want this is what we will do.
if nothing comes from it then he can say this is what we wanted and if something does then he can thank you.

Well he is a weak leader after all so doesn’t surprise me – put enough pressure on him and he will eventually break. It was probably the sports stars that did it given how much Albanese likes sports

Yes, go Albo. I will honestly have more respect for him or anyone if they own their mistakes and correct them rather than double down.
This isn’t about Palestine vs Israel, or Team Red vs Team Blue. Which I know to some, all they are thinking about are political careers.
This is the worst terrorist attack on our soil and we need a comprehensive deep dive into why it happened and how we can do our best to make sure it never happens again.

Maybe Albo will backflip, maybe he won’t.
But this all rests on one “Labor source” whoever they may be, they might not be privy to the government’s decision making. I’m not sure if we can conclude that the ground has shifted.

Good. As long as community submissions are allowed.
Also… a lot of you spent a lot of time downvoting and shilling for Albanese and Burke and dogpiling the Australian because you didnt like the putting in black and white some of the lamest quotes attributed to the aforementioned in Australian political history, because ‘Murdoch’.
And lol at the downvotes.

How would that even work while the actual court case against the gunman is still going. Is sub judice not a thing any more. Or are we having an inquiry that can’t mention it.

“Imagine if something else happens, and what are we then? We’re the guys that have said no to the Royal Commission. He understands that.”
I think this is an important point, if more antisemitic hate crimes occur ( even if it’s due to countries like Iran paying drug addicts or more phony attempts to get out of jail), the government is just getting dragged right back into defending its record on the issue and the lack of a royal commission. Calling one would allow them to more easily return to whatever they are currently doing.

There must be a way to have a royal commission and not delay the police investigation. But I’m not knowledgeable on the subject.
PattonSmithWood on
If he backflips, then one term of the RC must be to investigate whether the actions of Israel against the Palestinians in Gaza and expanding settlements in occupied territories and the staunch defence of Israel by peak local Jewish bodies have contributed to antisemitism.

This may or may not be a legitimate source, so I’d be wary of being too certain. But I wouldn’t be surprised

I do not understand what the conservtards think he might be actually hiding? I am pretty sure he is not calling a RC because it makes no fucking sense to

Murdoc desperately manufacturing an RC because Google won’t pay the new media tax, so the sportsbetting media arm of the LNP needs new sponsors to stay afloat. What’s the bet that some Israeli ‘investors’ are odds on to win the deal.
it gets really serious when the licensed 4th estate is hell bent on breaking the popular trust in an elected government, in league with trolls funded by anti democratic foreign actors.
I’m all up for an RC into racism and cults, but making an RC into one particular form of racism is too narrow a scope. Perhaps widen the scope of ‘racism’ to include general misogyny, domestic violence and the authoritarian mindset.
this RC would compliment the previous RC into institutional child abuse, the Venn diagram mostly overlaps.

can someone explain to me why RC is needed i thought reasons that this occurred have already been explained (ASIO not keeping eye on him and gun laws that have been lightened)
is this all just semantics to make certain group people happy?
