*We’ve got an obligation to enforce the laws. They’re only a temporary law, just remember that. There will be times when these laws no longer apply … It is about social cohesion and lowering community tensions and I think every day that goes forward, we’re starting to see that get back to more of normality and that’s a good thing.*
The trust and confidence in the police force is evaporating faster than a puddle on a hot day. Let’s break it down
*They’re only a temporary law, just remember that. There will be times when these laws no longer apply …*
Unless I am mistake, this appears to be, at best, a mistake, at worst an outright lie and I sense the desperation.
Im certainly not a lawyer, but I don’t think the law itself is going to be retracted anytime soon. It simply won’t be active, if they decide not to extend it. Though the law allows them to do this every single time it is decided that there is a terrorist attack. That is a very different thing to what was said. In essence they can essentially remove the democratic right to protest by simply calling a terrorist attack. So the laws are not temporary at all, there impact hopefully is. Though even that isn’t guaranteed.
*It is about social cohesion and lowering community tensions*
Since when has the desire for “social cohesion and lowering community tensions” become more important than living in a democracy? is NSW Police unfamiliar with our human rights?
*We’ve got an obligation to enforce the laws*
Well then, the right to protest is a fundamental human right. They are in conflict with these new laws and they appear to have made their bed and political picked their team. What’s more, their goal should be clear. They have stated that all gatherings will be unauthorised. So why are they negotiating with organisers? Seems that their only recourse is to attempt to shut down all protests. Are they being political, yet again, in trying to help some protest? Are they just trying to save face?
*I think every day that goes forward, we’re starting to see that get back to more of normality and that’s a good thing.*
While this is subjective, I haven’t seen it at all. These issues are international issues that have been simmering for decades, and probably will for many decades to come. Given this appears to be what is stopping us having a basic human right, I think they should provide some evidence for this statement. Or are they just “feeling it out”.
Personally, I think it’s time we starting thinking about asking for some resignations.

We should shift protests to online only. Maybe some sort of VR environment where they can run around ‘protesting’ and not bother the vast majority. Maybe in Minecraft. The ABC and Guardian can plug in with a VR headset and let their audiences know what’s going on, and the rest of us can be relieved by not being stuck in traffic due to their ‘look at me’ antics or having to pay taxes for policing and to repair the damage they do.

I want to see either invasion day protestors arrested en masse or Palestine rallies go ahead with no police intervention.
The alternative, invasion day rallies allowed while Palestine rallies are shut down, would be a mask off situation for the government where everyone can see they are playing favourites.
