  1. If libs got pushed to third place in a lot of seats there are a lot of LNP voters that will preference ALP over ON. It’s gonna cause a significant conservative loss of seats.

    >”Wasn’t I smart as a leader to actually get Barnaby across?” Hanson quipped on Monday.

Not really. Everybody knows that Barnaby Joyce would sell his soul for another fifteen seconds in parliament.

I find it interesting how the far right are so openly full of themselves. I don’t doubt other politicans are as well, but the mainstream and the left would never tell you so directly how awesome they think they are, while people like Hanson, Joyce, Trump, Latham, Nigel Farage etc. are the first to tell you their opinion of themselves. They’d also never tell a self deprecating joke, couldn’t ever laugh at themselves. Christopher Hitchens wrote that we must prevent the humourless from gaining power, which was really in reference to authoritarians, but it’s interesting how those two concepts are entwined, and I don’t doubt leftist authoritarians like Stalin would have the same opinions and sense of humour.

  4. The person who deserves the most credit for the rise in the One Nation vote is Sussan Ley. After that it’s Anthony Albanese. Pauline Hanson is well down the list.

Hanson claiming anything is a laugh. The One Nation cooker vote is up, sure. Do you have the balance of power? Nope. Can you win more seats at the next Federal? Hard to see it.

But you enjoy talking to the media and spouting your brain farts.

I love seeing the beast the LNP let in the tent and fed running out of control.

Same mistake as the Tories in the UK.

Lol, she’s just Bradbury-ing her way to benefitting through the pure luck of being associated with a core issue the public are concerned about, not because of anything special she’s done herself or any kind of charisma.

One Nation is just the only game in town for people who want lower immigration, in a country where high immigration and poor housing affordability are highly salient to a lot of people.

That doesn’t require anything “smart” from her, she just has to show up.

I don’t think our immigration system is all that wonderful, but it merits a more sophisticated response than just “good” or “bad”, but I don’t see Pauline Hanson leading that. I don’t see anyone else doing it either tbf.

Certainly when you’ve been using the nation’s flag as an anti-immigration symbol, it’s hard to say that’s part of a rational conversation about economics and industrial and urban development.
