This is crazy, forget the next budget Ley might not even be leader by February. Nothing in the article really definitively indicates that he’s becoming the frontrunner or anything

  2. The conservatives have unilaterally decided that moderating isn’t an option for the party, so the only real choice is between going back to their old ways, and giving the populist route a shot.

And the old ways didn’t work out well, so Hastie seems like the right choice out of the limited options.

Opposition Leader Andrew Hastie here we come. People here keep saying he has terrible interview skills, perhaps could those people share the links to the interviews in question?

Let’s go Andrew Hastie. Right guy at the right time with a world view understanding that is simply incomparable

Ley has been on borrowed time for quite a while, and her terrible judgement over recent weeks surely means that she’ll be pushed out when Parliament returns. Breaking the longstanding convention to not politicise disasters without at any stage thinking through what she was trying to achieve, how the government would respond and what the Coalition MPs would support beggars belief.

The irony is that Hastie and Taylor have even worse judgement and are likely to be even less attractive to voters (especially after any honeymoon period), but they’re relative cleanskins so one of them will be leading the party in a few weeks.

  6. Last time there was this much speculation, it became apparent that Hastie just doesn’t have the juice. He is a lot more wooden and unconvincing than a right wing politician needs to be. What ever the “it” is that Trump, Farage, even arguably Barnaby Joyce have, Hastie doesn’t have “it”.

It didn’t take them long to forget. Maybe this time he’ll be exposed again in the driver’s seat.

  7. Another Trump-lite wannabe.

The people who want a fascist state already vote One Nation, so who exactly is Hastie supposed to represent?
