It’s rather odd that the CLP government is going out of its way to get into culture wars. They seem to have forgotten the defeat of the very long lasting CLP government in the 1990s, which occurred when Darwin became more cosmopolitan and the middle class people who moved in were appalled by the rednecks running the place. Apparently John Howard’s decision to increase the number of Army personnel in Darwin was a big contributor to this, as even the soldiers thought that the CLP were backwards and preferred a Labor government.
The CLP was elected largely on a platform of fixing the poor situation the NT is in, so the last thing they need is to become distracted by culture warring that presents them as rednecks.
