  1. Conservative media really pushing One Nation, obviously not understanding that 36 seats isn’t anywhere near enough to actually govern.

And let’s remember what happened in Queensland in 1998. 11 seats, but by 2000, every One Nation MP had defected. Yeah, that’s how to govern a country. 🙄

  2. To be an opposition you need more then 1 seat in the house….

Lets see if the loony toons of one nation can transfer polling data into actual seats, Its not likely in my view.

the march for australia rallies really did energise the radical right hey? this is where a lot of this support is coming from

  4. Last time I checked the Westminster system of government operates on seats won, not opinion polls.

One Nation only finished top two in TWO seats at the last election. For comparison the Greens finished top two in at least four seats that I know of in Victoria alone (Melbourne, Wills, Cooper, Fraser) that I’m aware of.

kevin rudd also warned us in 2021 that the murdoch media would fully radicalise politics by 2031. we’re almost halfway through and this is the result. imagine what australian politics will look like in another 5 years. yikes…

Demos are always screwy when it comes to the major parties share, in the words of Bonham I’m putting this one as a #pollshapedobject for now.

  8. One Nation will never be the opposition. Murdoch Media are doing this to force out Ley and create a situation where the Libs and Nats have no choice but squeeze out moderates and seal their hard right fate.

Why is there no two party preferred for this poll?

If there was one, it would definitely be better for the left than the right given that the combined Labor and Green vote had a change of +2 points while the combined Coalition and One Nation vote has a change of -1 points and ‘Other’ also had a change of -1 points.

If the Coalition hypothetically returns to its pre-2022 approach and puts One Nation below Labor, would this poll deliver Labor a 115+ seats?

While everyone is crowing over Pauline the most important part of the article goes unspoken:

    >DemosAU head of research George Hasanakos said if the results were replicated at an election, Labor would win comfortably

  12. Liberals really having a leopards ate my face moment.

They’ve acted as an anchor on the country, courting and played coy with the far right for decades. Now the far right has gained enough strength to start eating them.

They let Murdoch and Nats dictate their policy eating away at their policy strength for media support and power. Now they don’t have the power to carry them and don’t have the policy to get support.
