    Adult Crime, Adult Time.

It’s a great policy and other states and territories need to follow Queensland and Victoria and adopt it. Also, 10 is a very appropriate age for criminal responsibility.

All these countries, the UN boffins sitting in Geneva, overpaid academics and “youth advocacy groups” calling for Australia to change youth crime laws are turning a blind eye to countries like the USA, UAE and Qatar who inflict extreme punishments on criminals including the death penalty and are obsessed with our completely decent and reasonable youth crime laws.

Quite surprised that Germany was criticising our youth crime laws, but then I realised that this report was produced over a 4 year timespan so it’s quite possible that the complaint came from the former administration in Germany where the Greens were in power rather than the current centrist one.

  2. It would be cheaper and better for all concerned to pay for after school drop in centres, open late. More free community activities and free mental health support for the kids that are at risk of developing anti-social behaviours. Children need safe spaces, and sometimes home is the opposite of a safe space. 10 year olds aren’t adults and reflect the environments they are raised in. Every kid in gaol for violent crime has been failed by society (but mostly their parents).

  3. “In most Australian jurisdictions, children as young as 10 can be arrested, prosecuted and jailed. This is inhumane and remains out of step with international human rights standards”

Obviously… Think back to when you where 10. Where you an adult?
