I say it when it’s a treehugger blocking traffic and I’ll say it again when it’s a right winger attacking an invasion day protest. ***Terrorism laws are inherently bad laws and should be removed***.
The man threw a bomb into a crowd. That’s the crime, charge him for that. We shouldn’t be adding more years to his sentence based on whether he threw it for political reasons (terrorism) or just plain old racism (not terrorism).
I hesitate to pull the classic internet stereotype of quoting 1984 but we’re literally discussing an additional charge which depends entirely on the man’s thoughts instead of his actions. This trend of responding to every terrorist attack by increasing sentences based on motivation is dumb and bad will just lead to highschool kids getting five decades jail for egging a politician’s office (political ideology!!!!! That’s a serious thoughtcrime in addition to the real crime!!!!!!!!!!).

It is awful but police will likely need time to investigate the incident, apprehend the suspect(s) and investigate all leads that might reveal any affiliations.

Isn’t there also an amendment now for nihilistic terrorism? Where the offender had no ideological bent but engaged in terrorist activity.

Wow. They need an expert to determine if building a bomb and launching it into a specifically targeted crowd is terrorism.
I wonder how much this is costing us.
