I lived in Maine for a few years growing up. It has a low immigrant population to begin with. Also, politics in this state are unusual (compared to most US states), and closely resemble New Hampshire and Vermont—socially liberal but fiscally conservative. It’s also the whitest state in the country. Those factors played a significant role in why ICE scaled back its operations, so Collins doesn’t deserve that much credit.

“Enhanced operations”. Whenever I heard the US government say enhanced <anything> I get the impression it’s something absolutely horrible. Something that’s a single one step away from running a full blown Nazi camp.
Example A. Enhanced interrogation.
Which was their way of saying systemic torture aimed not at recovering information (tortur is the worst and least efficent way for reliable information) , but instead training US citizen be as sadistic at they possibly can. Letting them live out a fantasy where they can do everything they want without legal ramifications.
Which I would say pretty much describe present day ICE. Letting them kill and rape human beings while be rewarded for it. The entire US government shouldn’t be allowed to run enhanced <anything>. Fucking monsters.
