>Stewart Prest, a political science lecturer at the University of British Columbia, said Eby’s use of treason is appropriate, because it’s a “moment for blunt talk.”
>Prest said Eby isn’t trying to launch a criminal prosecution but show that the separatist group is “betraying” the principle of Canada.
>“They are trying to work with another foreign power, an unfriendly power to bring about the dismemberment of Canada. And so by any dictionary definition of the term, that is certainly treasonous.”

I wanna know what professional Redditors think though.

Sedition would be a much better word than Treason in this particular case.

Now that we have more than one group of seperatists. Who gets to be “The Separatists” instead of <insert region name> separatists.

This is like that time Elon Musk called a Thai cave rescuer a pedo for no reason, and got away with it because it’s not defamation if you make an incredibly stupid accusation against someone just because you don’t like them.

Lots of law terms have different definitions from the dictionary. This shouldn’t be surprising to anyone.

Oh yeah right I forgot Jan 6 was just a bake sale or whatever, legally, too.

I appreciate Eby coming out and calling it like it is,
but yeah I don’t think we’re in criminal territory.. yet anyway.
I’d be very hesitant to say calls for separation is criminal, although I’d be all for updating laws to harshly criminalize it if there is an element of foreign interference.
Like these dweebs syncing up with MAGA is a whole new level of betrayal. That’s espionage and infiltration territory.
PS that press conference was fucking gold 🤣 Eby called it treason and basically it was like “over to you, Danielle!”
And then she spent ten minutes chanting Trudeau like it was a hex.
