I remember I was playing basketball outside in the summer one day and came inside for a drink and there was no juice and I told my dad that as an up and coming NBA player I expected juice to be in the fridge at all time. I was very serious about that. He told me I was stupid.

Putting it in a jug and pouring water in is too much work I guess.

That sucks! I make “orange Julius” drinks with these; frozen orange juice concentrate is a key ingredient.

Minute Maid also raised the price on them to an absurd extent over the last little bit. It used to be multiple for a dollar and it’s almost 2 dollars a can near me now. Hope the no name ones stick around at least.

Damn these prevent a lot of water from having to be shipped and stocked, at least in theory.

It’s the frozen lemonades (both lemon and pink) that I’ll miss the most.
(Side-note to complain about the price of orange juice these days…)

I fucking hate the state of capitalism right now. Things are getting canned left right and center not because they aren’t profitable. But they aren’t profitable enough. Fuck shareholders, and fucking private equity.

Me. I will. OJ and lemonade in bottles is in imo undrinkable.

We made great margaritas with the lime concentrate.

Juice in general has lost popularity. I still like a glass now and again, but even though it’s “natural”, it’s sugar water.
I think people have finally wised up to the fact that juice is not much healthier than pop.

im actually really disappointed. my household went to soley concentrate as the price of bottled juices is unreal. i can make OJ for 2 bucks or buy a jug of OJ for almost 10 dollars.
if the market isnt there i think people just havent been doing the math right because we need this now more than ever.

Ugh. Time to stock up. Their limeade is the BEST, but increasingly hard to find.

It’s cheaper than buying plastic litres of juice, can adjust to taste and is better in smoothies. Wth is wrong with people.

The key line is “less profitable”
They would rather sell you the water/juice in the cooler at a marked up price.
It’s not about what we are buying, it’s about maximizing profit.
It’s anti environment as well. Refrigerated juice takes up more cooler space, more shipping space, weighs more, etc.

One of the joys of childhood was eating this stuff right from the container with a spoon.

It used to be relatively cheap to buy and stock up on and made sense when it was a buck or less, but the price of that stuff has gotten too expensive for what you get – basically watered down juice.
You could water down some regular orange juice and get more for the price these days.
Certain low-cost, economy-buy products happily exist in a market when they’re below a certain price point, but above it, consumers compare it to other options for more value.

They costed themselves out of the market plus people are more sensitive to the sugar content these days though back in the day we always used to add extra water to stretch the can more.

This feels like it was retailer choice than consumer. About 25 years ago, frozen juice prices suddenly doubled then tripled. At the same time grocery stores started pushed higher priced pre-reconstituted juice as if it was “fresh”. (It isn’t really fresh, in case you didn’t know. They don’t actually squeeze an orange and ship that bottle of juice to you thousands of miles away.) I have a couple recipes that only work with frozen concentrate.

Used to be able to get them 3 for a dollar, now they’re $2-3 each. Crazy how they stop selling when they’re 9x the price

We give our kid apple juice at ~$1.50/L. It’s still cheaper than the frozen juice concentrates.
