Tesla is committing automotive suicide. Tesla’s Q4 2025 earnings call made one thing painfully clear: the company is no longer interested in being an automaker. Tesla is letting a highly successful automaker wither so it can chase autonomous robots and robotaxis that may or may not work.

It’s more like it used to be a successful automaker, given the sales trajectory and lack of new models.
This struck me as a stupid move. But I don’t know what options they had left. The EV tax credit was the only thing that made their cars profitable. Now, they’re just throwing money at another gamble, while still sitting on a sinking ship. Musk got his big payday. A disservice to all investors, but a payday nonetheless. Tesla is a dead man walking.
