    Isn’t this the entire point of asylum? Temporary and returned when the thing that is putting people at risk has ended?

    Otherwise it really is just economic migration by the back door. Really feels like they need to do this to maintain the legitimacy of the asylum system to me.

  2. This title is misleading. Syrian refugees, about 20,000, have permanent protection, residency status and rights and aren’t being considered for deportation. 

    Some asylum seekers may be, particularly those whose refugee claims were previously refused or have not yet been processed. Legally these aren’t “refugees”.
