This whole thing reeks of donor-driven strategy. Keeping Democratic governors out isn’t about “respecting the office” or any high-minded principle it’s a calculated move to keep certain political donors and special interests happy. You can’t build an “us vs. them” narrative without maximizing donor contributions from the people who thrive on division. Politics is more about who’s cutting the checks than about who’s making the decisions.

Trump has disinvited only two governors to the dinner: Wes Moore (D-MD) and Jared Polis (D-CO). They happen to be the only black governor and the only openly gay governor in the country. I don’t know if that was the logic, but I’m not sure if there’s an explanation that could be more evil.
This is separate from the meeting that’s GOP only, by the way. Two different events.
