Since Ley didn’t have the numbers, will she be changing her name back to ‘Susan’?

HAHAHAHAH!!! Omg this is music to my ears, get your popcorn ready everyone, the Liberal Party team is going to a by-election of the most unpopular Opposition leader ever combined with their worst polling at the moment oh my this is too good.

So a bi election in a seat traditionally held by Liberals or Nationals.
This is an interesting test of the coalition

Sky News commentators all said she would bow out gracefully, wouldn’t snipe from the backbench and be really an asset to the Liberals still. No chance she quits politics, think of the cost $1million + in byelection spending… haha

What Sussan will be remembered for as leader:
* Bending over backwards for the Nationals and her own parties right faction
* Demanding a RC against all advice
* Demanding hate speech laws be rushed from Parliament to only have the process backfire and end her leadership
* Complaning about Albo’s shirt
* Throwing a temper tantrum because she didn’t see Penny Wong shed tears

Enjoy the flights and spending time with your family Sussan! You did what you had to do.
Big first test for Angus.

The byelection will be a good gauge on how One Nation will really fare, assuming they run a candidate.

I’ll give her massive credit for this.
She’s giving Taylor what Dutton, Turnbull and Gillard didn’t get. In this instance though I’d rather her hang around and throw grenades at Taylor.

For who will win the by-election, there might be a chance that One Nation could gain some ground, however, I still think the Liberals will retain the seat, possibly by a slim margin.

Will be interesting, the first real opportunity see how real One Nation really is

I thought she was a pretty mediocre leader, but that was a pretty gracious farewell speech. I actually believed her when she said she has no bitterness about what’s happened and that she wishes Angus well – sort of the exact opposite of Abbott’s exit.
It’s gonna be a mighty interesting by-election. Although Farrer’s been a safe seat for a long time, I would say this is not a lock for the Libs to retain given their current numbers.

The by election will be the perfect opportunity to test the waters and see if ON’s popularity translates into votes.
I hope the Teal Independent runs again and wins the seat but ON is a real chance.

Sussan Ley may have been Billy Snedden/Alexander Downer levels of incompetent (with the Joy Division t-shirt criticism her “woof woof” moment), but nevertheless the Liberals didn’t even give their (moderate) first female leader a full year as leader. She wasn’t even given a chance to deliver a budget reply, let alone lead the Liberals to an election.
And if the answer is “Fantastic. Great Move. Well Done” Angus Taylor, that really says it all about the lack of talent in the Liberal party room….

Do the Libs or Nats contest the seat? Farrer is technically a Nat seat. Who has the better chance of beating out a One Nation challenge?

classy speech tbh, wish Angus Taylor nothing but failure 🙂

Angus Taylor is the way to go for the liberals it seems.

Good parting speech I thought. I think she’s a good person, putting aside policy/political differences. The leadership and the constant undermining must’ve taken a big toll on her.
In terms of by-election, I know Labor wouldn’t put up much of a fight. It’s gonna be a test if One Nation is as popular as the polls indicate. If ON clenches the seat, it would be disastrous for Taylor and the Libs in general. Potentially even terminal.
espersooty on
Labor won’t have any chance of winning in the seat due to their whole destruction of the livelihoods of farmers etc through Murray darling basin plan and water buybacks.
Likely to have a Liberal win with One nation gaining some sort percentage.

In the space of two months Ley politicised a national tragedy, tanked the Liberal vote, broke the Coalition, bent the knee to the Nationals, gets humiliated in a Libspill, and resigns from Parliament.
It’s Friday the 13th, and I’m not into superstition or numerology myself, but when you court bad energy, sometimes it backfires.

Should Labor sit out this by-election? On one hand there may be a small leakage of Labor votes to ON/Libs/Nats instead of the independent (if she contests) but on the other hand it would be terrible optics for Labor to be seen as neglecting regional Australia and it would give ON/Libs/Nats free ammunition.

Both libs and nats will contest Farrer. I hope and independent wins it.
