  1. >Americans want accountability and “an end to the chaos,” Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer of New York said Thursday before the vote.

Can’t wait to see how long he sticks it out before he caves like the loser he is.

Dems should also demand a public accounting of what has happened both in the strict financial sense as well as who has been detained and arrested, what crimes they committed, and where their cases currently stand. The administration claims there’s never been any government more transparent. Show us.

  3. Republicans loaded the bill with poison pills that would give ICE unlimited power and remove any oversight, then blamed Democrats for not passing it. If Republicans want DHS funded, remove the provisions that turn it into an authoritarian weapon.

  4. Is this why they announced they’re leaving Minnesota? To get Democrats to vote for this bill?

“DHS shutdown imminent after Republicans refuse to agree to meaningful restraint of ICE.”

    Fixed it.

  6. Good, shut it down…permanently. These republican assholes can argue for its reincarnation all summer and all fall…go right ahead…

  7. Nope ! republicans refuse to require ICE to follow federal and states laws and hold them accountable for their crimes but also put reasonable restrictions on them. Democrats are trying to protect the constitution, laws and people

  8. Honestly, why should we even fund DHS? It’s not like ICE is the only problem. Unless we get something out of it, I’d just leave it defunded.

  9. Both organizations made on bad faith, that operate functions not necessary for our nation to run. When they say the whole system will break, I laugh. Amerikkka should break. We’ve never been perfect but, definitely better than this.

  10. Shutting down the concentration camp department seems like the most moderate of all potential actions this congress could take.

Republicans refuse to compromise. All bills need 60 votes in the Senate. Republicans only have 53. So they need 7 votes. Therefore, they need to compromise in order to get those 7 votes. There is nothing they can do, short of eliminating the filibuster, to pass a bill otherwise. They can stamp their feet and threaten this and that, but they still need to give Democrats something. And if it doesn’t pass, don’t say that “Democrats blocked” it. You should say “Republicans refused to compromise” or “Republicans fail to get necessary votes to pass bill”.

PS– All the Democrats want is for ICE to act like every other police force in the US. No masks, obey the 4th amendment, no raids in Churches, schools, etc. It’s a pretty reasonable list.

Senate rules still allow 1 or 2 “budget reconciliation” bills per year with only 50 votes to pass. That’s how the Big Ugly Bill was passed in July.

It would be the funniest shit if Congress disbands ICE and they all have to repay their bonuses. Like actually hilarious. Please, it would be the funniest shit of 2027

  13. Holy shit are the Democrats actually doing something? Or is this theater until they can figure out which 6 or 7 of them will vote Republican this time?
