Very interesting that two Republicans in Ruby Red West Virginia have introduced a bill to remove the Real ID requirements. The state’s attorneys general said he opposed the sharing voting rolls with the federal government.
Is this a Republican epiphany that the SAVE Act will make it more difficult for even Republicans to vote? Or would having one fewer form of identification make it more difficult for everyone to vote?

Real ID is still cheaper than a passport, though the rest of the country would still require it.

How exactly does a state choose to exempt itself from federal laws?

So no domestic flights?

so basically they’re just going to copy half the rest of the country and still offer non-compliant cards on request?
pretty simple move and a welcome one. (i never bothered with realID when I moved to Tennessee, as I tied Precheck to my passport name, and consequently TSA rejects my driver’s license anyway)

Just tell the folks they need a passport to visit Ohio
70% of the WV population receives federal aid, so they’re all citizens; right?

But I thought getting an ID was super easy and if they really wanted to do things like fly, have a bank account, or vote, they’d get off their asses and get that ID.

There are people who have relatives or even spouses of problematic immigration status who voted for Trump, believing that his promised immigration crackdown would be focused on “the worst of the worst”. Now they are finding that they have been related to ‘murderers and drug dealers’ all this time, and their relatives are being deported.
There are many who voted for Trump, believing that he would cut out “waste and fraud” from the government, making it more efficient, and paying down the National Debt. But now they learn that *they* have been the waste all along!
There are many who voted for Trump, wanting to see him remove freeloaders from public assistance. Now they find that their own mothers have been apparently able-bodied while refusing to work, and living off the public dole.
There are many who were eager to see tariff payments coming in from cheating foreigners like China, and are now shocked to realize that they have been Chinese all this time!
How many will be finding out that they have been “fraudulently” voting in U.S. elections, and haven’t even been verifiable citizens all these years! Why, even JD Vance won’t be able to vote, since his birth name is James Donald Bowman.

How would you know that they are in fact citizens?

It just symbolic. Every state allows you the option of getting a regular drivers license vs a real ID. My driver license is a regular one. And I use a passport to travel by air.

Based on their premise “the Real ID Act of 2005 as harmful to West Virginians, stating that it causes residents unnecessary expense and inconvenience. It also claims the Real ID Act violates the 10th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution” EVERY state should do this.

Haha I just posted on another forum that the next thing they do will be to move the goal posts on who the save act affects. Hilariously predictable

Sounds like what we have here in Wisconsin. It’s not required, you can get a standard driver license without real id.
