First reporting on this had it as Kuwait shooting them down, but it was us.
Totally not indicative of gross incompetence or anything.
Edit: I see now. Article conflicts with its own title.

The editor messed up this headline. The three planes were shot down by Kuwaiti Air defense, which the article states. But whoever wrote the article headline apparently didn’t read the article.
Still a huge number caused by lack of communication and preparation that would allow for deconstruction and avoiding these types of mistakes. Thankfully none of the crew died because Hegseth didn’t properly prepare for this type of combined operation.

Russia has done that a time or two in their invasion of Ukraine and every one laughed and made jokes about it. I thought the USA would be better.
The post title is misleading, but the article is framing the Kuwaiti friendly fire claim as speculative, implying that it was possibly Iran that shot them down.

If you get rid of the smartest people in the room, you’re inevitably left with the dumbest. What an embarrassment. Knuckledraggers with slicked back hair dictating our foreign policy and murdering people. Fucking embarrassing doesn’t do it enough justice. I hope one day as a nation we wake up and they see inside a courtroom long enough that they’re escorted to their jail cell. War pigs.Â

Not that I have any damn idea what that means.

Important note: The title say’s “it’s own fighter jets”, implying US forces shot down US jets. However, the article itself says (emphasis mine):
“At 11:03 p.m. ET, March 1, three U.S. F-15E Strike Eagles flying in support of Operation Epic Fury went down over Kuwait due to an apparent friendly fire incident. During active combat—that included attacks from Iranian aircraft, ballistic missiles, and drones—t**he U.S. Air Force fighter jets were mistakenly shot down by Kuwaiti air defenses**,” CENTCOM wrote in a statement. “All six aircrew ejected safely, have been safely recovered, and are in stable condition. Kuwait has acknowledged this incident, and we are grateful for the efforts of the Kuwaiti defense forces and their support in this ongoing operation.”
I assume their explanation would be that they are allied forces and on the same team, but the general reader is likely to confuse that with the other explanation.
Please remember to read articles.

Friendly fire seems to be a very us thing…
Statistics and Findings
Gulf War (1991): Nine British soldiers were killed by U.S. A-10 aircraft on February 17, 1991. Another incident on February 26, 1991, involved 6 more British soldiers killed by U.S. fire.
Iraq & Afghanistan (2001–2010): Of 519 British military deaths in these conflicts, 12 were officially recorded as friendly fire.
Proportional Risk: A report by Action on Armed Violence – AOAV found that UK forces were over 10 times more likely to be killed by US friendly fire than US troops were to be killed by UK friendly fire.
Overall Fatality Rates: During the “War on Terror,” 3% of all British armed forces deaths were attributed to friendly fire.

This is really poetic. Trump really liked hammering Jimmy Carter’s failure to rescue the hostages, but this helps prove how chaotic air operations over Iran can be even with complete air superiority. History will remember Trump as being a million more times inept.
Kuwait and our other regional allies must have really been left in the dark about all this.
