We could have it so much better. The answer is right here and it’s so simple.

All we need is a society *that actually gives a shit*.

It’s just amazing to me that some would find an urge to be contrarian with that sentiment when, between Republican voters, non-voters, and third party voters, 70% of our free-willed grown-ass adult public absolutely did not bother to show up for good governance and good public policy last time around.

This is absolutely fantastic.  I hope some groups organize all of us to press every Congress member to pass this legislation.  I hope lobbyists are pressured to hammer down and force this through.  I hope Newsom’s phone never stops ringing until he’s on the right side of this issue.  What the hell is he thinking?

  3. Like if they buy warner brothers for over $110 billion plus they can pay their fair share in taxes right????

  4. It’s funny when the subject of taxing millionaires, billionaires, or trillionaires comes up their immediate reaction is to threaten to leave.

If they don’t want to pay their fair share then they should leave.

  5. If you were going to raise taxes on BILLIONAIRES ONLY, Republicans would say Democrats are going to raise their taxes.

Meanwhile the debt will have probably still grown over $20t in the same time span.

The common reaction is that millionaires, billionaires, and trillionaires would leave. It’s not like they are spending the money anyway. They collect money to compete for high score, not to spend it. So, having them out of the pool plugs the hole the money is spilling out of.

It’s over 10 years, but it’s better than what these asshats pay now

I’m telling you, we only need to eat one billionaire and redistribute their wealth, and the rest will fall in to line.

Do that shit when the dems have the majority if you want to impress me. Right now it’s just bread and circuses.

  11. If they combined that with removing the cap on social security contributions we’d be in pretty good shape.

Since I can’t write to either Senator Sanders or Representative Khanna, I hope a staffer is reading Reddit posts.

Please follow George Washington’s Carriage Tax example. It’s a wealth tax and it got passed, has been constitutional for over two centuries. And the 21st century equivalent of the carriage is the private plane. Tax that in every way possible, increase the existing fees by 10x or 50x.

Don’t bother with another IRS rule; the billionaires hire brilliant loophole finders.

Forgive me for not being more politically literate, but how can we get this on the ballots nationwide? Seems like if it were up to the people it could easily pass

  14. Why is no article mentioning in the headline that this is just a FIVE percent wealth tax. 5%.

  15. Need to make sure we also need to get a handle on the insider trading for all political officials
