Trump asks tech titans to sign an energy pledge, but is it just PR? The federal government has no chance of enforcing it. And if those data centers never get built or close, everyday utility consumers could be stuck with the bill. “…this pledge is like asking the fox to guard the hen house.”

Of course it’s just for show. What are the consequences to these tech firms if they don’t follow their pledges? That someone on Reddit will be upset at them? I doubt they care.

  2. Does anyone really believe that Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, and Mark Zuckerberg will willingly put their own financial interests aside in order to do the right thing for the US consumers? This is total PR fluff. Trump just wanted some headlines showing he’s doing something about energy costs, while simultaneously doing everything in his power to drive them up.

Same kind of PR that the orange turd has been using to present the image of concern about the “little people.” All bullshit.
Local communities could force the issue by making the AI companies pay for electricity up front & relying on the “pledge” as an enforceable promise. (It’s probably not but looks bad if they don’t honor it”. )
