Christ, this administration is guilty of war crimes at home what makes you think they won’t do it abroad?

  2. Theferael_me on

The whole fucking shitshow is a war crime, from the initial strikes, to the sinking of the Iranian ship in the Indian Ocean, to the killing of the dozens and dozens of Iranian schoolkids to Israel’s attacks on medical centers and healthcare workers. All of it.

  3. rvretiredlife on

If it’s a crime, why isn’t anyone. Especially the military going after him?

  4. Glittering-Storm-651 on

they only care about international law when it’s not them that break it. Hypocrisy at its maximum

  5. I’d love for the ICC to indict Hegseth.

I know nobody would ever arrest him but he would be barred from entering most countries for the rest of his life.

  6. MrTestiggles on

Yup, declaring it even is a war crime per intl law. The US and prosecuting for war crimes though? Not the best record

  7. But boy if this was Obama or his DOD director, the torches would have been lit and ready for an impeachment hearing seconds after this lil “war” all started. The double standard is outstanding

  8. No administration official went to prison when we enshrined torture as a legitimate policy during the Iraq/Afghanistan wars.

Nothing will happen this time around either because we, the people, really suck at holding such criminals accountable.

  9. I’m fairly confident he just said that to sound badass, I bet he doesn’t even know what that word actually meant.

Not that excuses him of course, he’s just an idiot.

  10. I think he’s too stupid to understand what “No quarter” means. He just heard it in a movie once and thought it sounds tough. Fake machismo from his middle school mentality.

  11. So, you’re telling the Iranian military to fight to their last breath because if they surrender you’ll kill them anyways?

Hegseth is a dipshit who just does and says shit because he thinks it sounds cool.

  12. Yeah, just like killing sailors who‘s boat you bombed before… put it with the other ones.

  13. Kooky-Nail7505 on

He’s a moron. He probably thought it was just a tough guy thing to say but didn’t realize it’s an actual war crime.

  14. Pale-Acanthaceae-736 on

The hubris displayed by this administration is staggering.

Fun fact: The last 3 GOP administrations have initiated wars in the Middle East.

  15. And all it does is put our military at higher risk. The enemy has no reason to surrender or take prisoners.

  16. DearthNadir75 on

Can you imagine the world just ignoring Hitler and his administration and allowing them to continue without repercussions. It’s mind boggling.

  17. Hegseth doesn’t even know what “no quarter” means. He heard it once and thought it sounded macho. “What do you mean that’s a war crime? Nobody told me!”

These are the clowns running our country.

  18. Im like half positive he is so dumb that he didnt even know that phrase had actual meaning and wasnt just said to sound cool.

  19. Salt-Initiative-8159 on

No shit – what are you going to do about it? Is there an international court that can throw these idiots in jail?

  20. Choomba_Lord on

Anyone remember when Tom Cotton said police should give BLM protestors “no quarter”? Yeah, this is par for the course for these evil bastards.

  21. Crafty_Ish1973 on

Following the Geneva Conventions is apparently too much to ask for this uneducated drunk.

  22. PensandoEnTea on

I think it’s time some soldiers get the death penalty for following these orders. I think we need to remind people that “I was just following orders is not a viable argument.

  23. RimboTheRebbiter on

Perhaps this might have mattered at some other time, but the US has been gutting international law since 2023.

Although I do think that Kegsbreath has exactly zero idea what “no quarter” actually means, and just thinks its a cool and hardcore thing to say.

  24. CircumspectCapybara on

    Per [Legal Eagle](https://youtu.be/qFTPWaA5IpI?t=440):

    > Now whether Hegseth’s statement would actually qualify as the crime of denying quarter depends on whether he meant it as guidance to forces under his command during ongoing hostilities or if he was just trying some sort of psychological operation to intimidate Iranian forces. “You’d better give up otherwise some real bad things are coming for you.”
    >
    > The problem for Hegseth is that under the DoD’s law of war manual, his own law of war manual, propaganda in the form of a declaration to the adversary that no quarter will be given is prohibited in a violation of the law of war. Candidly, I’m a little skeptical about the legal basis for how firmly the DoD manual states that rule. But if Hegseth is hoisted on his own petard, I won’t complain.
    >
    > However, the law implicitly recognizes practical limitations. After all, what constitutes all possible steps will depend on a myriad of circumstances and unknowns. Submarines are particularly vulnerable if they surface after firing a torpedo, so commanders are allowed to prioritize the safety of their own vessel and crew by taking evasive actions. The limited space aboard a submarine could also make it impossible to take large numbers of survivors aboard. Lastly, if the submarine commander was aware of the Dena’s distress call, that could mitigate the submarine’s legal requirements to provide assistance. We don’t know yet whether the US made any attempts to rescue the Iranian soldiers or alerted anyone else to do so. Nor do we know the submarine commander’s thought process, which means the legality of American actions after the strike is simply unresolved at this point.
