Might as well have ended the article there.
Was there a universe or scenario where Republicans weren’t attacking Democrats for some grievance real or not come the midterms?

I’m sure that with inflation and gas prices rising, the thing voters will be most concerned about is stopping married women from voting. /s

Help us implement legislation that decimates voting rights or we’ll attack you for not helping us implement legislation that decimates voting rights.
Quite the threat there.

Everyone’s daily reminder that *absolutely none of this* Republican bad-faith fuckery would even be attempted if we had a free-willed adult public that embraced the concept of responsible citizenship and did their damn homework.
Deflect to education all you want. I suggest anyone pivoting to that visit a suburb (where many crucial elections are decided) and ask the nearest postgrad homeowner about the happenings in their government.
Republicans lie and push bad-faith narratives because they know they’ll get away with it with enough citizens who can and should know better. Either free-will means something or it doesn’t.

This sounds like Thune wants this bill to fail but also is trying to sound tough for Trump’s approval. I will never understand republicans are so afraid of that man. He is the weakest leader we ever have had.

Republicans still refuse to make a reality-based argument for this bill. All they have are misleading hypotheticals, and outright lies. It’s fascinating to see just how detached from reality they are.
At the end of the day they’re simply planning on another January 6th. They’ll use this failed bill as an excuse to tell their gullible base that the election was stolen. Same exact playbook as before, but this time they’ve purged the government of non-loyalists first. It’s a bad path they’re taking us down.

Dawg, we already have to show ID’s to vote and register to vote. Everyone is already on board with that part!

50% of Americans have a valid passport, and that number is even lower in red states. 50% of all Americans have a Real ID. To add insult to injury, how many Americans have a valid, *updated* copy of their birth certificate just lying around???
Their own voters will get fucked by this too.

Seems like he is already preparing for it to fail and hopefully we never hear of this cancerous bill again after it is defeated in the Senate.

They always pretend there is widespread voter fraud (there isn’t) to mask their racism and hatred for the American people. The vast majority of voter fraud is small isolated incidents and almost always perpetrated by individual Republicans.

Do it. Show the country how tone deaf you are. While families worry about things like affordability and healthcare, double down on the solution looking for a problem. Sheer genius.

So they want to focus on whining about their voting restriction bill not getting passed instead of focusing on cost of living, the economy, illegal wars, and the Epstein files?
Sure, Thune, go right ahead. Please do that.

This is probably the single best news Ive heard all week.
Theres a fairly common process (used over 170 times by both parties) to remove the filibuster from a specific bill by simple majority once its brought up for a vote. And every single senator knows about this.
Thunes threat here that if the bill doesn’t pass Republicans will use it in the midterms is confirmation Republicans won’t go that route because there aren’t actually 51 votes to pass the bill.
Responsible-Pain-620 on
They called it the SAVE Act explicitly so that ill informed voters get all angry when they see opposition against it. Nothing about the bill is saving Americans. I want each and every person who supports this bill to provide evidence of voter fraud. I want hard, concrete numbers with an analysis of all this apparent voter fraud. Because if there isn’t any of that than all this bill is doing is ensuring to disenfranchise a giant amount of voters.

Plan was always to use it in the midterms. More hot air. Independents absolutely hate Republicans right now and still…still the only method is fear and gaslighting.

So, we’re royally fucked if they pass it since it’s the most radical voting disenfranchment bill ever conceived in America since it’s gonna basically take away a woman’s right to vote if she married and changed her name.
Or, they got something else to whine about. Like they’d ever not have anything to whine about…

The “SAVE America Act” is a farcically titled, U.S. Constitution-shredding attempt to perpetrate mass voter suppression—and is unequivocally designed to screw untold millions of Americans out of our right to vote.
Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., personifies the rancid dishonesty of democracy-loathing, Trump-toadying MAGA Republicans.
TheAnalogKid18 on
Ok, let’s pass the SAVE Act then. But just a few caveats.
1. Passports, birth certificates, and photo ID’s should be made free of charge, and the process should be streamlined to reduce turnaround time.
2. This process should not have to be self-sought, there should be passport and birth certificate drives happening all over the country in the months prior to the election.
3. Expedite name changes.
4. Make election day a federal holiday, in fact, make the entire weekend eligible for voting.
If you’re concerned with election security, then we need a good faith effort to show that you actually give a fuck about this, and aren’t just trying to purge voters you don’t like.

A LOT of Redditors in here completely miss the true purpose of this bill and if the Democrats actually cared about our country they would *clearly and explicitly outline the actual bill’s intent*
The bill allows the DHS to remove *anyone for any reason* from the voter rolls in any state
No two election cycles before getting removed, no “states rights”
Just a massive overreach by a completely corrupt government just to keep a *convicted felon and rapist as well as an alleged child molester IN the highest office in America*
That’s what this bill is really about. Nothing less
